1986 Ritchey Ultra

I bought this frame in December from ebay. The cold and snow has prevented me from parts hunting at my usual shops. I think tomorrow will be my first opportunity to go to the second hand bike shop in search of a fork. Once I have a good fork I will send it off for powder coating along with the frame. I've looked forward to building this for 2 months without any progress.

I found a fork today that will work. It would be nice to find an original Ritchey fork but unfortunately they are hard to come by. This fork is in really good condition. Should I powder coat it with the frame so they match or keep it this color?

Nice find. I have a scabby 88 or 89 Ritchey Ultra in black. If you are going to powercoat the frame I'd do the fork at the same time. If not, you might as well just leave the fork as is.

So the Ritchey Ultra is my "unicorn" bike. This is the first mountain bike I saw that I coveted deeply when I was just getting interested in cycling as an adult. It cost about twice the price of my first mountain bike - a Rocky Mountain Fusion - and it came with the complete Shimano XT groupset - in black! This one is black, but the one I'm familiar with was a lovely pearlescent white and the black XT bits looked stunning on it.

I picked this sad looking example from a member here a few years back and have struggled with what to do with it. I built it up as a commuter / ride the dikes...

Thanks for responding dirttorpedo. I'm leaning toward powder coating the frame and fork together. I have a set of bullmoose bars, cranks and a front brake that I plan to powder coat black. I'll spec the derailleurs with deerheads. I'm not sure about the wheelset yet. It will have mostly XT from the time period.

Maybe find a stem to powdercoat at tge same time?
