cool...I have that groupset sitting right in front of me, going to be mounted on a 86 mountain goat, along with specialized headset/crankset and sansin/araya wheelset for a complete shimanoless build

I actually preferred X-press over push-push RF. Felt generally more solid to me.

What's the problem getting the beartrap pedals? Seem to be all over eBay, or are the ones I see there something different?

My first decent MTB was a 1991 Cannondale. Originally XCM equipped, bottom of the Cannondale range, I upgraded it to XCD with a six-speed Hyperglide screw-on block and odd SunTour 88-89 thumbshifters with hinged clamps. XCD was great apart from the easily scuffed painted cranks and the usual awful SunTour chain. Bike got nicked only about 7 months after I bought it :cry:
