1983 Peugeot VTT

Right well I'm making an effort on this one so here's some 'before' pictures to give some context.

The bike is an 83 (or possibly 84 model) Peugeot mountain bike. Bought from a couple in Halifax who said they'd bought it in early 80s.

Helpful chaps on here identified the frame number as an Araya built frame and some further research shows it uses Tange Champion tubing.

It was in useable condition when I collected it, but the whole bike was covered in some kind of waxy plasticky stuff that I could only shift with a brass wire wheel (on the chromed steel). I just couldn't shift it without damaging the paint so I decided to dip & powder coat.

Next jobs are to polish up the bits and fit it all together. It's got some nice period Suntour and Dia Compe bits, but I've decided to pimp it with some mid-80s indexed thumbies and quick release axles/skewers.

Here's some pics of the bike when I collected it

Update, build is finally happening after about fifteen other projects finally got finished (and ANOTHER bike purchased). Coming on nicely but I need a straddle cable. I bought cheapest on eBay but the shysters sent 200mm of normal brake cable - without the wedgy bit on the end to help you pull it into the brake.

Anyway once I've got chain on it's nearly there and just needs the odd decal or two to finish off.

Looking good! Can I ask what tyres they are?
You can. They were the cheapest amber wall tyres I could find (that weren't slick) about £30 posted. Although I've since found some even cheaper ones for £20 posted that have a prominent centre ridge for on road riding which suits me just fine.
