My first drop bar bike bought new in 1982. It's been through many updates over the years, but hadn't been used much for some time as most modern equipment is just nicer to ride.
Probably not to everyones liking with the mix of equipment, but it rides nicely and I like it. I'm just working on a nicer bottle cage adapter to finish it off.

Did you have to reset the rear end? How did the brakes line up with the wheels, OK? I'm about to embark on a similar build with an early 80's Rourke and would love to know more/any details of the pitfalls of the conversion.

Thanks. I had been running it for years with 700c wheels by just pulling the stays slightly apart when fitting the wheels. When I got the frame sprayed up I asked them to cold set the rear stays and forks to the correct width. I did check the alignment when I got it back and it's pretty much spot on. I modelled and 3d printed a stopper for the non drive side rear wheel dropout so that the wheel aligns correctly and can't slide too far back. It also needed a serrated washer on the driveside rear to keep the dropout from touching the cassette lock nut and prevent the wheel pulling forward (I filed down a serrated nut for this).

The brakes require quite a bit of drop, I had been using the long reach tektro calipers on it. This time I made up an extender for the rear caliper (standard ultegra 8100) and modified a brake extender for the front to fit the forks.

The wheels I made up using LightBicycle 35mm carbon rims, CarbonTi X-Hubs and Sapim Super CX-Ray spokes.
