Blimey Charlie...that is incredible. The smoothness of those weldso_O and the matching cranks , bars, forks etc. as @raidan73 said, best thing on here for a while and from 1982 too. You guys over the pond were so far ahead of the game BITD
 
This is unbelievably cool. The history of the bike is so awesome, I would keep it as is, your sentimentality regarding the patina is justified.
Also, there is currently a competition running, that bike is an instant contender for Bike of the Month.
Heck, it's a Bike of the Year contender, and it's only February!

That is by far the nicest Cook I have ever seen. Racing in the early-mid 70's with a modified Schwinn against Cook bikes had me lusting after them but no dough to buy one. There were LA teams always at local SF area races to promote their goods. Still want one with 26" wheels now. I'm so jealous...
