1980s Muddy Fox Courier

"beauty" might be a bit of a stretch, but for what you paid you can't complain too much really! It should clean up reasonably well, and they are nice bikes once up & running.
I've had 2 over the years and yes the spokes always rusted, but you've escaped the stuck seatpost dilemma so I'm looking forward to see how this turns out 👍🏻

That’s really nice, amazing how well these survive, has it been respoked? That was where I left my build at, I had tried the usual methods to get the rust of the ones I have but it was really pitted. I need to investigate but I think I’ve bought new spokes for it. I really must get back to the one in the garage but I’m not quite up to it at the moment.

Looks like you’ve been able to reuse the cable outers as well, that’s handy, they are difficult to source. Is yours missing the grannie ring on the chainset?

Who's posting what in this thread??
I thought GTpulse started the thread for his bike? Seems to have been overrun with other people's project photos 🤔

No photos of mine since 31st Jan, it’s still hung in the garage a bare frame!

I don’t mind, it’s great to see there are so many of these being rescued.

Nice job you have done there. Seeing it in its commuter disguise reminds me of my first ATB, a Mk II Raleigh Mustang which my folks bought me as a 13yo with the mudguards, rack and stand. I had a burner BMX before hand and so the ‘stang was seen as a more sensible mode of transport!

Some updates that are actually of my bike and not the shiny stuff others have kindly been posting in my build thread!

It’s ended up being a functional rather than a shiny shiny build. There have been so many of this model done on here and on eBay that I’m not going to be showing you anything new! There’s stuff I’ve had to replace like the cables and outers with the nearest I could find as they were just shot, cables rusted in etc. Brake pads for now are the wrong sort, I’ve got a load of dia compe correct ones buried somewhere but can I find them?!

I ended up rebuilding the wheels with new stainless spokes as the originals were really pitted.

The frame/paintwork is scrappy, I’ve cleaned and polished what I can, any bare metal (there was lots!) has been treated with rust converter and a touch up with the wrong colour white. Once I’ve found something closer I may go over it again with a bit more care.

I changed the bars for some that have more of a sweep to them, still MF bars but these have the horizontal rather than vertical logo.

The rest of the parts are the best of two bikes, one with a shot frame I’ve used to donate to this one. The shifters are slightly later than the originals which I now can’t find!

Anyway, photos……

Thanks, it’s not quite to the standard I would like. I realised when I came to reassemble that I had refurbished some of the parts when I was first off with my Achilles rupture a few weeks back. It’s surprising how much that impacted my attention to detail at the time. Never mind it’s kept be busy at the right level of activity and it’s cost less than £100 and that’s before I’ve sold off the donor bike parts (the other frame will be karma when I can get around to it!)
