I plan on repacking all of the bearings, replacing the front brake pads, adsjusting the rear drum brake, giving it a good cleaning, then riding it! Frame date May 1979, headbadge stamp for final assembley on Thursday, July 19, 1979.

Re:

Thanks for the feedback. :)

Tires are in unbelievable condition; good as new IMO!

But the condition of the chrome varies widely. The handlebar looks new, while other parts show quite a bit of rust. Like the front rim... :(

But most things are in good shape. When did you last see this on a tube?

Or the inside of an Atom drum brake?

I know this is an old thread but I figured I’d share my Schwinn Cruiser 5 I bought a few months back. It’s been converted into a 10sp (arggghh) I’m hoping to locate the missing original parts or convert it into a California Strandy like I used to ride in the 80’s. I live on the SE NC coast now so Jamis Earth cruisers are much more common, I buy them when ever I come across them because the are getting harder to find

Earth Cruisers are super cool too! I love the Cheeks saddle and Sandjam pedals. Feel free to share more pics of them, perhaps in a thread showcasing all your bikes. There's not a lot of American classics here! RatRodBikes dot com has a TON of expertise modifying and restoring schwinns
