1978 Raleigh Record

Retro Newbie
Hi,
This is my first post to RetroBike and my first real restoration. I had been prepping my wife's 1985 Raleigh Mist to sell and was thinking what a lovely bike it was and maybe I should get something similar to fit me. I searched Ebay for a month or two and found this Raleigh for sale near me and thought it was worth a punt.

It is full Reynolds DB frame and forks with Campy dropouts. Not the usual Record model. I have tried to research the model but haven't found too much. I found two other examples on the internet but neither have much information. The serial number indicates it was made in Worksop in December 1978. The colour scheme looks almost identical to a Carlton Professional of the same era but the lugs are different and there are no cutouts in the bottom bracket. I think it may be the same frame as a Carlton Competition but sold on the Continent and re-badged Raleigh as the Carlton name was not so well known there? I think it was sold as a frame only as the parts are a bit of a mixture.

It came with odd wheels, a tubular on the back and 27" clincher to the front. I guess someone may have swapped out the front for another bike. The rear has a Campy high flange hub which is probably worth more than I paid for the bike. It needs repainting but for now I think I will clean and touch it up and ride it for a bit. I got a tubular for the front with a Normandy high flange hub that looks almost the same as the rear.

I'd be interested if anyone knows any more about this model.
Cheers, Dave
