Jim’s done a cracking job with this SR (Sakae Ringo) chainset… Its as per the one in the CB 1977 Catalogue and I’m pretty sure it’s classed as a light alloy version, but its not listed in Velobase so I don’t really know its exact component name, any ideas from you lot would be gratefully received.

I think you’ll agree it looks much better than the more modern 3 cog Shimano that had been put on the bike sometime in its life!

Now on to the next batch of mucky parts!

This bike still had its original SunTour rear mech (date stamped December 1977 so I’m assuming original) a quality Mk1 Cyclone GT.
Described as better and lighter than the equivalent Campagonolo on Velobase…. :shock:

I do love these old Japanese derailleurs, especially the kit designed like the Italian stuff, just before the Japanese started going their own way design-wise. Anyway, I thought it only proper to match this up with a full SunTour set and I had a CompeV front deraileur stamped ’79 but was definitely around pre ’77 and a pair of SunTour DLW LD-1000 levers, same period Campy copies in the parts box.
So a little bit of elbow grease (and a bit of colouring in to tie in with the Holdsworth Kingfisher Orange & Blue racing scheme) and so we've just got the brake set to go (Weinmann of course)
