1970s Gazelle Sprinter - A Fixed Gear Rescue Project

It appears that the new fork is indeed slightly shorter and therefore clearance is tight, but as I said, a separate pair of original Gazelle Sprinter forks are unlikely to find... Nonetheless, I managed to fit the Salsa Woodchipper bars:

First short test ride today. Its not finished completly and the seatstay bridge still needs to be replaced, but what the heck, this is fun to ride!

Best wishes!

Well, it has been a while since my last post and my Gazelle got a new seatstay bridge in meanwhile:

And yesterday I took her out on a 80km long round trip

I still have to build a new set of wheels or at least tighten the cog way more as the chain keeps "glitching" during climbs, starts and skidds and the saddle had to go. I already put on a Brooks - looks a bit strange but I know it matches my butt.

Hopefully I've some time next week for another try.

Cheers

Lovely. I do like "orphans". I did a similar thing with a Raleigh Winner someone had left on a scrap pile in their garden near where I live. It's always nice to give something a new lease of life!

Having posted some pics in a while and since I hopefully be able to take the Gazelle out for a next Orbit (Gravel Race Series over here: orbit360.cc) I'll share some impressions of my previous Orbit Loop in July (154km):

It was my longest ride on a Fixed Gear so far and it was a rather hot day. During the first 50km I needed to replace the tube up front and realized that the rim was slightly bent on the wall. The only solution: get rid of the front brake. But despite that, the first 100km were going according to my inner plan, only afterwards the trails got sandy as hell and I needed to walk and push a lot...

I think the next loop has some sandy areas.as well but I will take them first and not after 100+ km in my legs.

Now I am waiting for some spokes to arrive that I can build a new front wheel.

Cheers!
