1961 Raleigh superbe (Helio)

I'm struggling with the gold lining part. Might need the proper paint. Dunno if it's also the paint lining tool that's causing problems as it bleeds out. Anyone have any experience with using lining tools? I just have a marshaltown 3/64 of an inch pinstriping wheel

Or I suppose I should ask if there's any other methods to do it and get it nice and straight. Other than using a paint liner wheel?

best you can do there, and there is no other way, is simply practice! i use to do it for mazda, make use the frame is 100% free of any contaminent, dust, debris. you need a fairly thick mix as well. if all else fails, argos cycles in bristol.

Signwriters paint? I don't have the beugler lining tool I just have a Marshaltown Esbee one. I want a 1mm line and the paint just overflows way bigger.

I was considering masking off the 1mm lines. giving myself alot more work but hopefully giving nice clean lines? i have tape thats a bit flexible which i will test out

Progress so far

Tested gold lining on the old tattered mudguard using drafting tools. I bought a striper wheel but I thought a 1.2mm would be good. Turns out I needed a 0.8mm so I'm gonna have to get that. Using a drafting tool is tedious.



I've learned a few things while working on this so when I come back and redo this in a few years I will know better

I wonder if getting magnetic guides would help with the straight lines on the frame for the gold lining. I also have a rear rack for this. A Prestube Minor from Ashby & Sons since they appear to be the more official Raleigh Superbe rear rack

coming on good, how raleigh done there lining was with a wheel, not a pen, with just using your finger as a guide, same size wheel, as on the sa pully, with a paint reservoir. i dont kknow where the hell you could get one today, but once youve finished yours, you can do mine lol

ok guys, bit on my restoration, just got down to the frame. time to start the long boring rubbing back and sanding. then treat her all over, with rust convertor, stop any rust bubbling back through, in years to come.
