Sold 1960s Carlton built Sun Snipe Prestige

Dirt Disciple
Time to make room in the stable so selling my Sun Snipe Prestige. This was a barn find which I completely stripped and restored, although I decided to keep the frame in its original condition with all the battle scars and to preserve the original beautiful decals and paint work. It’s had a good clear coat on top to seal it.

I stripped, cleaned and polished every part and regressed every bearing. Original Milremo stem and GB bars. Original Weinmann levers with the Sun hoods which have been cleaned up. I’ve put new white cotton tape wrap on the bars but there is some black stains that have occurred through storage.

Period 27inch alloy front wheel (better than the chromed steel versions that have rather dubious braking ability). There is a bit of pitting on the braking surface. 27inch rear wheel with period cassette. New tyres and tubes.

I’ve replaced the bottom bracket. New set of cottered cranks from a Raleigh (the originals were too rusted and a bit loose). I’ve put a Shimano 600 rear derailleur on, but I have an original Simplex Prestige rear derailleur which I can sell as well if preferred. Lovely NOS alloy pedals. Original Weinmann brakes with new blocks. Original Brooks saddle which has had leather restore on it. Aftermarket shortie mudguards (cheap Chinese versions).

I fitted new cables and outers throughout, but had fitted a flat bar (couldn’t get on with the drop bars) and cut down the cable housing from the bar to the tube. I have put new cables in and replaced the outlet for the front brake with a piece of the original housing, but the rear brake housing is a bit short (still works ok, but could do with replacing).

Looking for £140 which is less than the value of the parts I’ve put onto her.

Collection from Hitchin, Hertfordshire.

Thanks

Happy to take it apart and box up for you with plenty of bubble wrap if you arrange for a courier to collect. Works pretty well with Parcelforce.

Dunno if you've already sold and posted this, but I might be interested to collect... could u ask the frame size though?

Hi, thought I had replied to this, sorry. It is still available. The frame size is (approx) 54cm seat tube (centre to top) by 56cm top tube (centre to centre).

Very nice road bike, shame for all the scratches on the top tube. Do you know the weight of it?(im kinda looking for a light road bike at the moment

I don’t know the weight I’m afraid. It’s a 1960s frame made from steel, so won’t be super light compared to modern bikes.
