The headbadge is really faded on the head tube Terry. It reads 362/3 Upper Street, Angel N1 on the down tube. N40 on the top of the right side of the seat tube and forks which indicates a serial number. Brampton headclip is prewar as is the Williams 5 pin cranks. Chain ring is 1949 AZ 44T. Brampton pedals have cleaned up and the rusty Cyclo Super Olympic 3 speed too. Some upgrades in 1949 I think. Thanks for any help Terry.

Hi, I think its a 1939 Macleans based on the lugs ( Brampton http://www.classicrendezvous.com./Briti ... on_BB.html ), the finish of the top of the seat stays - nearly all the pre war and some post war have filed away top to the seat stay, not a sloping one, so its pointing to change, and the serial number ( not used post war ), it may of crept into wartime but 1939 looks there about. In a 1939 catalogue ( really late 38 ) I found, theirs no mention of brampton lugs, pointing to change again. So that's all my logic, in my eyes a very desirable bike, look after it. Terry

Thanks Terry. The headset (clip type) is Brampton. Definitely 30s lugs though. The saddle is a Brooks B5N and a later update. Just cleaned and serviced all bearings. Rust removal and polished parts. Will lace the front wheel with new spokes and now looking for a 26 x 1 1/4 40 Dunlop steel rim for the rear. Thought they were 27". Have an Airlight hub for it. Thinking galvanised spokes as I want it looking period. Might go stainless steel spokes. Decisions?
