180mm Vs 160mm

140 front? I am not aware of there being a fork/adapter/ calliper combo for 140 discs.
I was referring to my rear vented 203mm being overkill in extremus, having stated 'I see the point of bigger discs on front'.

Logically though, practicalities aside, a 140mm disc, ventilated, front would do fine for xc. It would still be a huge step up from 'even well setup' vees!

Glad we are comparing the same brakeset on two different machines John, at least that underlines the real difference being noticed rather than some sort of placebo effect.

Don't doubt it is therefore easy to tell the difference, but as much as the larger rotor stops faster, are you really going to exceed the ability of the 160 rather than the actual grip available through the contact patch of your tires?

I mean, before we take fade and all that into account.

I am knocking 17 stone in full kit, and it is normally the tires that lose interest in saving me, but you may well be using something much grippier and in totally different conditions. I am rarely on dry tarmac, where I am sure these differences might be much more apparent.

Re:

I'm running 203's and I found them too grabby at first. Now I'm getting used to them I like them. I never need more than one finger anymore.

Re:

Bang on, and with the vented discs you never even think about heat building up, though apparently it is only 15% less or something.

Riding my Prince Albert, my wife found herself coming off repeatedly. Once she got used to it and stopped grabbing with too many fingers she was fine. She is barely 60% of my weight so they were not best set up for her.

Re:

Don't know whether it's me or not but I feel they are much more progressive once they have warmed up a bit. It could be me getting used to them but that feeling is pretty consistent. Cold - grabby. Warm - spot on.
