Due to another bike purchase I have had to split my GT Tempest.

I decided to do this build after seeing Mikee's polished GTs, which I thought looked lovely. I sourced an 18" GT Tempest frame and then spent what seemed like forever stripping off the paint. The result can be seen below:

With some autosol, time and elbow grease you could get a much better shine...

I have used this frame for about 6 weeks since building up, it is a great ride.

It has a new Shimano bottom bracket, shimano SLX RC chainset, new Octane one headset fitted by the LBS, and is ready to be built up again.

There is some wear to a few of the chainset teeth but nothing too major and still very useable.

I will also include the GT pedals that are a nice match.

Here is a picture of the headset, and other accessories included:

I can also include the original forks, which would benefit from painting but are very useable. Alternatively, I was using Rock Shox Tora, which can be included for an extra £15.

How does £75 posted, by paypal gift sound?

Hi, stripping paint is a long laborious process. After taking advice from the great and the good on here, I used copious amounts of Nitromors, follow the instructions, make sure you leave for an hour before removing. Once you have done this a couple of times there will be plenty of paint left, then it is down to wire wool, use a coarse grade and plenty of elbow grease. It took me ages to do, and you will feel like it will never come to an end. Unfortunately there are no real short cuts if you want to preserve the aluminium as it is a soft metal so power tools are out of the question. The welds are probably the worst bit, especially around the bottom bracket, but given time and elbow grease you will get there.

I have started with the nitromors but it doesnt work as well as everyone describes. I think they've weakened it recently to be more Eco friendly. Guess Ive got a nice project over summer, anyway thanks, looks awesome btw.

i have stripped my 1999 marin rocky ridge new old stock easton elite frame
that was bare ally with clear laquer
i got mega strenth nitromores
it was rubbish put layer after layer on didnt lift it at all just made it a little softer and still had to scrape it quite hard with a bit of softish wood
it took forever to get all the laquer off the frame it was a knightmare
i agree most paintstrippers are rubbish theese days
apart from the aviation plane type strippers but theyre not cheap
