18" Kona Hei Hei seatpost size? 27.0 or 27.2?

I just double checked and I do indeed have a sleeve on my 97 KK  . There's the culprit then.

It appears to be aluminium. How long does this sleeve run down the seat tube?
Its interesting as now I dont need to use copper grease in the seat tube as contact will be alu to alu.

Seat tube

Ti kona's don't have the sleeve like Merlin and Litespeeds do, Ti altho springy has nowhere near the tensile strength of good steel and can have memory, as a metal, it won't bend as far as steel before "set" is achieved. 953 has 3 times the ability to bend and spring back into shape than even 6/4 Ti nearly four times that of 3/2.5. 853 is a little less, but still much more resilient, of course steel rusts though!
I would just use a 27 in 400 mm with a Salsa or DMR double clamp and grease it well with thick Teflon grease, I use Finish line as it never dries out andis quite grippy.

Sleeve

Well thats a new one, different manufacturers then!!?? I doubt the sleeve has gone missing just not in there? Aluminium won't stretch like Ti, so I guess that's the purpose of the sleeve?

My KK is Sandvik tubed, I suppose any Sandvik frame could utilise a sleeve.

Panic over, I went to my LBS and had the seat tube measured, it actually came in a smite under 27.0! , although the chap was using digital vernier calipers.

He fitted a cheapo brand 27.0 for me which had the same amount of play in it as I decribed earlier, but commented that this was a perfect fit, and proved it with a 27.2 that wouldnt go near fitting the tube.

So I was just being a bit paranoid! . Still, I'll probably go with the Salsa clamp just to help things stay tight in the future.

Seat tubes

Interestingly seat tubes often flare out towards the BB! so a post can be a tightish fit at the aperture and then have a bit of slop further down, I find a nice deep band on the seat clamp is always a good policy.
