18" Kona Hei Hei seatpost size? 27.0 or 27.2?

so I got hold of my 27.0 Thomson post this morning...and as feared there seems to be a little play/slop when inserted in the seat tube.

This movement is very minimal but not something ive noticed or felt before on previous frames so I can only conclude that my frame is a 27.2.
Therefore, ive bitten the bullet and ordered a 27.2 and will report back if this does/doesnt fit after it arrives.
I'll also try and get my frame measured up at my LBS today and see what they come up with.

I hope the new one fits, and I also hope I can get my money back on the other post...otherwise it'll be in the for sale thread!

Frame size

I've had quite a few older Ti frames like this, I think the Ti "stretches" over time, due to its nature. My answer has always been to apply plenty of grease and use a deep good quality bolt up seat clamp, like a Salsa.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Perhaps someone in the past has tried to force a 27.2 in there...? ;)

This is exactly what happened with my Hei Hei. I currently run a 27.0 Controltech post and if I'm honest it could do with being 27.1. same with my Thomson.

It is also definately not 27.2.

I just make sure the post is run with plenty of length in the ST and keep it tightened up.

hmmm...I wish I had read these before ordering.

Ok, ive checked the salsa seat clamp and maybe ill try that route.

Its unlikely (but not impossible) the frame has stretched over time or been force fed a 27.2 as the frame is in nearly new mint condition, with one previous owner whom insisted it had only ever covered approx 300km's . He also stated 27.0 as the correct sizing...

Lets get Thomson to make us some 27.1's!

BTW, what grease do you refer to for use in the seat tube?

it should be copper grease in a Ti frame right?

The titanium seat-tube won't have budged, but the sleeve within that reduces the ID to 27.0mm may have...

excuse my ignorance, but whats the sleeve you mention?
im not aware of one, if fitted internally to the seat tube, does that mean Titanium to Alu contact is not being made?

There isn't a sleeve at the top of my Hei Hei? :?

I know some frames are shimmed out from the top of the ST down but I didn't think that this was the case with Kona's..
