Retro Newbie
With great sadness I'm breaking my old kona; I've got the frame (sold £80.00 + £13.00 delivery), handbuilt wheels (sold £80.00), XT derailleurs (now sold £10.00) and magura HS33 brakes (now sold £50.00).

Scroll down for further details.

I’m open to offers on these items.

Collection is preferred from Chelmsford, Essex. I can deliver up to 25 miles and postage for all of these items can be arranged at additional cost, subject to cleared payment (I have PayPal).

1997 Kona Kilauea MTB Frame
I bought this new in 1999 as frame only and it was waxoyl’d the day I got it. It is in very good condition for its age; it has a few chips and scuffs as you would expect but no sign of internal rust. I rode this at weekends for a couple of years and it has spent the last decade gathering cobwebs in my garage. I toyed with putting it back on the trail but arthritis in my knees has put paid to that…

I’m breaking the bike since the bottom bracket died (race-face ISIS, rubbish) so there are a few items for sale below that might be useful as well.

With – Reynolds 631 tubing it weighs 2.038kg (4.49lb) and is a joy to ride.

I want this to go to a good home so I thought I’d try this forum before eBay.

The critical dimensions for the frame are:

Centre of BB to top of seat post = 18"
Effective Top Tube Length (dimension C) = 23”
Dropout Width = 135mm
Stem Height = 110mm
Headset Size = 1 1/8”
Bottom Bracket Size = 68mm English

-EDIT- Dimensions clarified, refer to Kona's table below

It is a perfect fit for me at 5’10” with a 60mm stem.

Frame Only: £110.00, postage at cost.

Magura HS33
In silver paint finish but not the ‘quicksilver’ model fits 17" kona frame. Front and rear are both in excellent working order, you might want to change the fluid, though. Unfortunately, the brace/crown had to be cut to allow the tyres in and out and one of the washers is missing (it worked without it) – hopefully the pictures illustrate this.

*SOLD* £50.00 pair

Hand built Deore XT Parallax/DT Butted Spoke/Mavic X517 wheelset.
These are proper hand built items assembled by and bought from Chelmer Cycles (Chelmsford) in 2000.
Rear Dropout width = 135mm
Was fitted with an 8 speed cassette, might take other sizes, I don’t know.
Front Dropout Width = 100mm
These run true with no flat spots that I can tell. I have a video of them spinning or you can inspect them yourself.

Re: Kona Kilauea Frame XT Deralieurs Handbuilt Wheels MaguraHS33

I would measure it, it's just the centre of bottom bracket bit to the top of the seat tube (q/R bit)
I took the 22.5" and assumed it was along the top tube, which makes it a ~23" effective normally, which is a Kona measurement for 18"
The frame size measurement is easiest as it's hard to do it wrong if you quote Centre of BB to Top of Seat Tube for a Kona.
(It was more a confirmation for your sale as you missed that of the listing, 17" and 18" in at my 5'10" are too small )

Thanks; it measures 18" I've clarified my posting. Strange, since this was sold to me as a 17" frame and I'm 5'10". I used a 60mm 15 degree stem, 65mm travel forks and 25mm set-back on the seatpin. Was perfectly comfortable.
