I was thinking of fitting some along the top tube. That way if you over jump and case a landing, you have something to smack you in the balls after poking your eyes out on the handlebar mounted units!

I used electrical tape for the rim tape.

.. nothing wrong with that on a pub bike.
But for 15 grand I'd have got my professional wheelbuilder to put a proper tape in
