Whats the pedigree on forks these days ?

Im building a cove stiffee as a general runabout, but as its a nice frame i want a good quality fork on it. Likely have a rack too, but i sometimes wander, even on shopping trips, so wouldnt mind something capable on the front
Was thinking something like this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Marzocchi-66 ... 1438.l2649

That said it might be a tad heavyweight, but i dont know myself these days. I just need something very reliable.

Opinions ? personal reviews ? Or just tuppence worth :D

Ta.

Re:

1 1/8th or taper? If taper I sold my Pikes for £200 I think and they were ace. The £400 36’s that replaced them are miles better though. Depends what your limits are.

Sorry, straight 1 1/8". XL frame so i need the length more than anything.

Pikes came up a lot in my queries about a good fork with a standing reputation, but when you get to this money 2nd hand theres serious choice, and im not equipped to make it.
My limits now are just getting mobile is a good step forward. I'll not be hammering anything as ive no energy for it
Just think a high end commuter thats capable as any. Some of my older routes about the town include stairs and the like.

Re:

I'd have a look for some DT Swiss. My old ones were the best 26" straight steerer forks I ever had. No one seems to talk about them so they can be picked up for a decent price.

Something like this in your flavour:

Yeah, I had some 2010ish Revs that were decent. The DT XMM140's I replaced them with were better though. ;)

Nicew, I like DT Swiss, their rims and forks do get some very good reviews. But as ever with 2nds its down to whatever you can get when the steerer needs to be massive :(
I've gone for the Revelations, which compared to the pikes seem less popular. but it was down to steerer, and compared against the pikes weight, certainly saving near a pound.

I think my luck is changing for the better :D just as im after something with a ridiculously long straight steerer, when theyre all tapered, both a pike and revelation hove into view both with an 1 1/8" 265mm.
Was a bit of a choice dilemma there at the end though with both finishing within seconds of each other, but i think i did ok :)

Re:

Yeah, decent forks and just the job for what you want.

If the Pikes were similar era you've made the right decision as although the current generation Pikes have been revered as game changers since release (2014?) the earlier ones were nowhere near as good. Back the the Revs were the go to fork for RS. Not sure the 'good' Pikes ever came with a straight steerer?

Hard to know, he's not got the years on them, though theres a few clues, but im not clued up of RS spec/year.
From what info ive got thus far its dual air and the earlier were single air cartridge, and the decals are going to be specific. I thought maybe about 2012 :?

I suppose when it turns up a service might be the order of the day. Are these best sent off or are they moire user service friendly these days ?. Whats a service cost :?
Actually apart from a few marks they look ok, certainly cleaner than a thrash fork would look. But who knows, maybe he's very good.

Re:

They look a bit earlier than 2012 I think but will still be sweet. From memory you could have either single or dual air but I might be wrong. They are the ones with the remote lockout I think hence the cable stop on the dial.

RLT’s were the flash ones, again from memory. Rebound, lockout and turn key? The World Cup top of the range had a black box damper, the next down Motion Control (great damper, still used) and the lower ones something else........ Again, from memory, possibly wrong. I willl have a look in an old mag.

Service wise you could do a basic one but a sent away service will cost you the price of the forks again.
