Sold 86 (i think) Rockhopper Frame

Selling a 1986 (I think) rockhopper frame. Missing its decals but the frame details match the 86 exactly. Frame itself is very solid for its age, clean, no dents, no cracks, no obvious rust damage. Paint is less good, signs its been patched up In places, and plenty of chips. Looks like original...

    Cinder Cone - 1993

Looking great! Glad to see it back on the road and with some good gear on it to boot.

    Karma 93 kona cindercone

Under the weird paintjob is a 93 cindercone. (I know this because it was me that took the last of the old paint off). It's got the project 2s and a deore lx headset, but never had the velocity stem when I got it unfortunately. Does come with the dog collar and seatpost clamp. The frame has a few...

Oof that's no cheap. Better stop spending money on tyres and start saving!

For those who know how to braze

I live in the North of Scotland so the weather is unlikely to be forgiving enough on a regular basis. But that's a good tip! Had not though of that and will be sure to.

That's good news at least, cheers! Will need to look into the ventilation though, that's a bit tricker.

For those who know how to braze

That's an issue as my only working space is a tiny room with white walls. Will just have to get used to being cooked! But I think a cheap dc set and an old school helmet would be fine. I'm not looking to make money doing this, just kill the time. As for a bench grinder... May have to make do...

That's the dream isn't it?! But you're probably right. Don't want to be the guy responsible for blowing up the neighbours flats.

For those who know how to braze

Thanks so much for all that info! As you say it can be hard to find a consistent answer to any of these questions, but I feel like I'm getting a good picture now of what the "right" equipment is. hadn't realised how much potential there was for error, especially since the target heat levels...

Yeah fair enough, probably wouldn't want to cheap out anyway!

For those who know how to braze

Maybe worth having a go then! Certainly seems to be the more versatile of the two joining methods. I imagine it will be easier to find someone who can teach me welding than brazing too. One thing that has stopped me before is the setup cost seems higher, like £500 minimum. But I guess maybe...

That would be really great actually. I live on the other side of the country unfortunately but I'm sure I could find an excuse to be around there.

For those who know how to braze

That's really useful actually, the kind of details that are hard to find. I've seen a few kits online that look pretty cheap, but at least now I know what to look out for. I take it #0 and #1 tips are the sizes, and it's just general gas torch tips?

I've had a look at some courses, some really skilled builders doing them actually. Problem is the price really. Definetely Justified for the time, materials, and skills you get out of it, just not a cost I can match unfortunately. One day perhaps.

For those who know how to braze

Yeah I think a few pro hours would equate to like a hundred of self taught. I'm totally unfamiliar with all this stuff so it's all scary to me! If I was going to invest it would be propane. Acetylene seems like more the industrial professional choice-not something I want to have to worry about...

For those who know how to braze

Quite the CV! I bet there's some serious arcane knowledge that comes from working in a shop like that. I guess some serious equipment too.. As you say the variety and amount of information available and terminology used is dizzying. Looking for handbooks is a good idea though, sometimes the...

For those who know how to braze

Yeah the Acetylene aspect puts me off, I've heard propane can be used in its place as long as your not trying to weld, and doesn't come with the same regulations and dangers of acetylene. Frankly I could do without all that hassle and risk. Certainly I'm not wanting to tangle with my home...
