Headset tools. What to avoid? Whats recommended?

you can pick up a cheapy removal tool from amazon for less than 10 quid - I don't see any good reason to spend more on one TBH, they are dead simple. I also got a cheap chinese HS press from amazon for about 15 quid which does the job fine, though cos its not as precise or massive as the MUCH...

    Cantilever Brake Masterclass

that looks not bad I think for medium profile cantis like these, the way the angles work is a little different and its not so much about getting the straddle as low as possible (as it would be with low profile arms) - more you want the straddle cable and the imaginary line from the straddle...

    '91 Stumpjumper Time Warp Classic....

you can still get new 7 speed cassettes (even shimano ones!) and new chainrings are still available for both 110 and 94 BCD cranksets which I think were the two most prevalent MTB standards early on not as many options as there would have been of course but still being made (as well as square...

    Cantilever Brake Masterclass

this is not my experience at all - if they are the correct length the shimano style link cables actually work very well - they really help reduce the amount of slack by setting up better angles in my (admittedly limited) experience in addition to removing the risk of the straddle cable becoming...

if it had been the spline type fitment I'd have gone for that - alas :)

    Wanted Middleburn spider

I have a 110BCD triple (74BCD inner) I would actually be interested in swapping for a 94 BCD triple :) currently attached to my cranks of course! non x type (ie chainline will be correct for the older square tape/isis RX7s)

Wanted Nitto B802 or similar 25.4mm (or 22.2mm) riser bars

thanks for the linkage - a little less wide than ideal and not enough backsweep tho'

KK, Ku & Hot frame weights

I am sceptical of 3.3lb for the HOT - that's less than 1.5kg which would be insanely light for a steel frame.

Wanted Nitto B802 or similar 25.4mm (or 22.2mm) riser bars

after a set that doesn't require me to go to a 31.8mm stem! vintage or modern considered with the above in mind ideally looking for 50-60mm of rise (2 to 3 inches - which will knock out a lot of the possible choices) with a bit of decent backsweep (preferably somewhere between 10-20 degrees...

    Show us your Brodie

cool - thanks for the history lesson :) must admit I'm surprised that such subtle tube differences are all that really separated them - must have been tricky to choose your ideal Brodie BITD - or was there a definite hierarchy in terms of perceived value?

    Show us your Brodie

absolutely digging a lot of these and some really great photos to boot :) for the relatively uninitiated, can someone explain what the differences between the model names is? they all look awesome but I'm struggling a bit to see what separates Romax's from Climbmax's from Sovereigns, etc :)

    Specialized Hardrock 1988?

I kinda wonder a bit what happened after the 90s re bike graphics and product design in general so many brands had awesome paint/graphics back then then just lost all sense of style in some misguided attempt at looking 'up to date' since then even shimano - the latest versions of XTR and...

For Sale Longuns 2023 sale thread

heh @longun interested in the Middleburn Duo spider/chainrings - hard to tell but how much life do you think they have left? (inner/spider maybe looked better than the 42T outer to me?) also the blue CNC "unknown" cantis - do these have any mechanism for adjusting spring tension? wasn't sure...

    Specialized Hardrock 1988?

try and experiment a bit before you settle on something though - I know its easy enough to see some cool youtube or instagram build and immediately think "I want that!", but you might find you actually prefer something else in the end my experiment definitely made me realise that there is such...

    Specialized Hardrock 1988?

one more thing to consider is stem interface - if you have an older stem its probably too long and likely to have a clamp that will make fitting a high rise or sweepy bar very awkward or even downright impossible (eg if the bar has a crossbrace) I know you can get quill adapters (I have one)...
