Found some suitable replacement pedals for the Explosif and set off to finish the ride I started yesterday. Very bright and sunny but still very breezy!
First had to cross the M3 on the bridge that carries the King Alfred's Way route. Lots of traffic headed for the South coast!
Alongside my...
Is it worth 3 times this though?

It has caliper type brakes so the tyre size will be limited, You should be looking and a bike with cantilever brakes if a tourer with fatter tyres is what you want.
With this in mind I think this is definitely a classic case of biting the bullet and taking the frame to a professional outfit who will do it, usually without damage to the post for about £80. There are a couple of places in London that do it. I had one done in Ealing very sucessfully.
Sometimes things just don't go to plan. A couple of miles into the planned ride along the first part of the South Downs Way the left pedal started feeling a little strange. It then seized up and started to unscrew itself. Hmmmm not good. I stopped before any damage was done and scooted the bike...
I'll start the ball rolling by saying "it depends". Where are you based? I can only speak for UK pricing and would say, probably not as much as it was worth a few years ago.
I bought a 1999 Explosif a few months ago and paid £200 for it. I have probably spent £100 on it since so you could say...

Took out this Bad Boy!
Over the top of the 600 yard Hockley Viaduct
Along the plague pits valley by St Catherine's Hill

Today i actually had an errand to run on the bike, we were right out of coffee beans, so a trip to our local coffee roaster was in order. Great opportunity to try out the load carrying capacity of the King of Mercia too. :D
I have a set of 700c P2s with a lovely 300mm steerer tube that I would like to convert to 26" wheels.
So I guess I need to get the old bosses taken off and some new ones brazed on. Any ideas how much this is likely to cost and who might do such a thing. I don't seem to have any frame builders...
