    Nishiki Cresta GT Owners

If only the bike knew the difference between being on a tour on bad roads or commuting when on bad roads then it might behave differently. I think to save money what I'll do is locate the fattest tire that will work on the existing rims and try that config out. The wheels can always be swapped...

    Nishiki Cresta GT Owners

Another Cresta owner could answer if they ever had any problems with cantilever setup / compatibility & fit after a changeover in wheelsize, or if their frame failed at any particular point, things to try & look out for. In my case, I'd go with a change of bars and to a more upright riding...

    Nishiki Cresta GT Owners

This is a 1986 that I recently picked up. Appears to be original and with little use. Others have converted theirs to 700c and 650b wheels. I certainly like the look of some of these old road bikes but their main drawback (for me anyway) is lack of accomodation for wider tires.

    Lonely Fork Seeks Frame

You, know... I was thinking. I have a Diamondback Ascent frame that is going in for painting soon, and I also have that Surly fork. The goal of the Diamondback was to turn it into a front rack light duty cargo bike of sorts while hooking up a trailer to it. That frame has rigid short chainstays...

Some folks will do ANYTHING to add "value" to a bike for sale (e-stay content)

Slightly old thread, but I was researching Nishiki here on this site and noticed they made a Manitoba model?! Definetely never heard of that one before.

    Wanted Ritchey 9mm Front Skraxle

I have front wheel with a Ritchey hub which uses this harebrain "skraxle" and the wheel is un-useable without it. The fellow (selling the axles in the picture) was someone I wasn't able to contact to buy one. Oh well. Anyone have one of these spare in their parts bin?

    Painting a couple of frames

I'll be taking the frames in for a powdering over the next few weeks. I decided it was simpler that way and powder is quite durable a finish. Most likely both frames will be done in red. I'm looking forward to it - usually the minute you fork out $$$ for a job like this another complete bike...

    Lonely Fork Seeks Frame

Hi BW, will check! I think Surly might have a spec sheet on the fork.

    Lonely Fork Seeks Frame

I have a Surly Pack Rat fork for 26 inch wheels that I had bought a few years ago on spec. The Pack Rat is NLA from Surly. I thought I'd would be kind of neat to mate this up with a suitable (non-Surly) frame. The steerer on the fork is modern threadless and plenty of steerer is present which is...

    Diamondback Ascent & Apex differences

Just under the seat tube / top tube junction there is a decal on the seat tube which states "100% Crmo MTN tubing". This might mean main triangle only as per your suggestion.

    Diamondback Ascent & Apex differences

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. I think I have a 1990 ascent. It is the white with smoke blue paint. The frame came home from one of the bike co-ops a few years ago. Someone had repainted it with some kind of appliance paint. Here is the bike, I believe (not mine). The frame uses...

    Diamondback Ascent & Apex differences

Is there any difference between these two bikes other than componentry? I think the frames are both the same from what I gather.
