I'm surprised more of them didn't break as they were very stiff frames and some did not have the luxury of an upper headtube gusset. To be fair the headtubes were overbuilt until '94 (except the '93 Team). They seem to have a similar failure rate to Taiwanese 90's Zaskars, unless I am missing a...

I would reckon that the 500 figure was just frames made in 1991 (assuming they even kept their word), The 1992 and 1993 models were quite similar so I guess in a way there were far more than 500 made. I have a 1993 myself, distinguished by the rounded seatpost collar and FSX in the serial for...

Wow!!!! Absolutely pristine and mostly original 1998 S-Works M2. Keep it for sure. I started out with HR's and RH's too.

Re: the blue: The other S-Works Team bikes of the time had blue accents along with the red and white. This one wasn’t part of the Team line so it was just red and white. Thanks, I have nothing better to do with my life :)

Welcome! Ha, the “something” is the most important part! Luckily I am almost certain it’s a 1995. Road models are rare and I’ve never seen a red one. Ofmega Mistral in the wild is crazy, I thought those were the weird Raleigh branded SR cranks from the 80’s. Looks nice! Yes, the team colors at...

The Mach 5 is okay to work on but I have a deep hatred for it. The damper is at the bottom of one of the stanchions. You should be fine just replacing the elastomers and greasing the bushings (really well, these things suck). It may get harder if the elastomers have melted in the cartridge leg.

I have a pic of one of these bone stock with a Q21R… is that catalog spec or was the rigid model jus dropped halfway thru ‘96?

Nice! This is the more obscure late ‘96 model with the revised dropouts.

I picked up a 1995 M2 FS recently, in the midst of restoring it. Pics coming soon(ish).

It does, however knowing Specialized it could also stand for Future Shock.

I’m going to go with repainted 1991 S-Works. Decals are unusually era correct though, so makes me second guess myself — the top and downtube decals being a bit disproportionate/wrong are the clue.

I really want a Shiver SC for the front of one of these, but the key word here is “want”. Everyone who owns a Shiver SC or Dorado SC seems to be a millionaire. I threw on the DC once for giggles and it dwarfs the poor Max, the only OG FSR I would feel safe putting it on is the 2001 DH.

Unbelievable attention to detail!!! Not sold on bars and stem but those brakes are brilliant!!! And the right fork too. I would throw on an S-Works Son of Strongarm or 739 5-bolt crankset but that’s just me being picky. Best Extreme I’ve seen yet!

The Helix unfortunately does not sit right with the Z1 100 — I assume these were 7 inch i2i but mine measures out to be 7.25” and has a harsh top out — bumper delete? Or did they come like this? The 98 was already parted out by its owner when I got it — it had a curiously brilliant mix of parts...

The 98 was a donor for the 97 as it was too small for me. Lucky that thing showed up on Craigslist on my birthday when I had money, or else I would have spent a decade scouring evilBay for the MS link, needle bearing kit and Helix. The 97 has been a dream bike for me for a long time and you...

Here is my 1992 Mojo one-off as it was built up by the person I sold it to. It was originally outfitted with full DX, AC skewers and that glorious Action-Tec fork. Ibis have apparently agreed that it was one of one. Presumably the person who ordered it was broke after ticking the box for the...
