1993 Raleigh Strata Converted for Commuting/Touring

Re: Re: I've been looking at getting a shorter stem, but I've had a few rides and decided to leave it for now. As it is I've not had any trouble reaching the bars, I'm not hunched over or anything.

1993 Raleigh Strata Converted for Commuting/Touring

Re: Re: It's got a couple of red rear reflectors on it and I've been looking at getting some lights, but I didn't know about the pedal reflectors being mandatory.

What Bike to Convert into a Cheap Tourer/Commuter?

Pretty much finished converting it now. Fixed it up, given it a clean, added a few useful parts. Went a little over budget, but I don't mind. Could have kept it under budget, but I decided to replace a few things that didn't really need replacing. 1993 Raleigh Strata Converted for...

1993 Raleigh Strata Converted for Commuting/Touring

Might get a kickstand for it and I'm hoping to get some replacement decals, but other than that my Raleigh Strata has been successfully converted for commuting or touring. Got a bit carried away and bought a few things more for aesthetics rather than practicality, but I'm happy with it.

    Recommended Decal Printers

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a good decal printer. I've cleaned and added a few new parts to the Raleigh Strata I bought just before Christmas, it's looking nice, but some of the decals really aren't. I've looked around but there's not any existing decals for it. I don't know how...

That is indeed cheap as chips. Might get it, looks sturdy enough and the immediate compatibility is a nice bonus.

Here's the photos of the rear end. Doesn't have the usual eyelets for mounting on the seat stays, but it has the bridge for the rear reflector if that's something you can mount to.

Awesome, thanks. Should be picking it up end of next week, so I'll get the photos up then.

Nope, haven't got a rack yet, was waiting to see what bike I ended up settling on first, to see what type I needed.

Pulled the trigger on that Raleigh Strata, accepted my first offer of £40. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Wow, that's not bad at all. Might even be able to nip down and pick it up when I go down to my parents' in Bradford.

Re: Re: I don't know in particular, I just like the aesthetics, I'm not under any impression that there's any advantage to lugged frames.

What Bike to Convert into a Cheap Tourer/Commuter?

So, do you guys reckon if I got this for under £30 it'd be worth it? Or would you say it's already overpriced at £20? Raleigh retro 501 reynolds steel mountain bike frame wheels seatpost Durham

What Bike to Convert into a Cheap Tourer/Commuter?

Thanks for all the help guys, definitely a few there I hadn't considered. Just need to be patient I guess, the pickings seem to be a little slimmer up here in the North East, but I think I was being a bit impatient too. Is eBay good for finding deals or is it usually overpriced? There's a bike...

What Bike to Convert into a Cheap Tourer/Commuter?

I was originally more gearing my search towards frames and forks on their own, as I expected to be replacing most of the parts anyway for newer stuff. So I thought it better to use everything from a purchase than pay a few quid extra for a full bike because of parts I wouldn't want anyway.

What Bike to Convert into a Cheap Tourer/Commuter?

As the title suggests really, looking for suggestions on the sort of stuff I should be looking out for, in particular one with a lugged steel frame. I'm trying not to spend much at all, something like £100 overall. I've found an auction listing on eBay for what I think is an '87 Raleigh Montage...
