Manitou 2 Elastomer Change, help required please

Hi, the allen key size for Manitou 1 forks is 6mm. Not sure if that varies across the models though. In terms of getting rid of the gunk, I don't know if any solvents would help or not (though if you try them, be sure to clean out the inners very well before regreasing). Much of my...

Raleigh Dyna Tech appreciation and information thread

My 1993 MT4, which I've owned from new. The elastomers melted in the Manitou forks (I joined this site when trying to find new ones) so I intend to put the original forks that came with the frame back on. Only thing is I cut the steerer to fit another bike (an awful Ridgeback) many...

1993 khs montana pro UPDATE 13/3/10

Re: khs montana pro ss project I remember the Montana Pro for the very same reason. Were they also a bit lighter than the competition? Frame looks in good condition. Look forward to seeing the final build

    Post your retro raleigh pics...

My 93 Dyna-Tech MT4. The elastomers have melted in the forks, so I'm going to put it back the rigid forks that originally came with the frame (once I get a new steerer fitted, as I stupidly cut it to fit another bike a around 15 years ago)

    Recommend a helmet?

Sounds from your later posts like you're coming around to the idea of a helmet. I don't want to sound like a helmet evangelist (if that doesn't sound seedy  ) but that little bit of polystyrene can definitely do a lot if you're wearing it properly! A helmet is never going to make you...

    Recommend a helmet?

Giro Hex for me. Very comfortable and I can honestly say I forget it's there. I like having the adjustable cradle to help secure it. Definitely go and try some first though. When I was younger I only used to wear a helmet if I was out doing proper riding in my proper kit. Thankfully I...

    Mustang Tyres???

One of my Raleighs had Hutchinson tyres, but I can't remember if that was the Mustang or Mirage. I replaced the rear tyre of my Mustang with a Tioga Farmer John or Farmer John's Cousin. The edges of the tread was so square the bike almost stayed vertical by itself. A delight in corners...

    (cough) Raleigh Mirage...

I still have my Mirage. It's a 23" , bought in August 1991 after someone stole my Raleigh Mustang. I had coveted the Mirage for some time and was somewhat overjoyed when someone stole the Mustang from the garage  I used my Mirage through university, and it's still hanging...

DynaTech Seatpost Diameter [twin stay rear version]

Hi, I have a Raleigh SPD brochure here from 1993, and it says that an MT5 (MMC frame) is 25.8mm, and all others (including MT3 and MT4) are 26.4mm. Apologies, I'm not sure what twin-stay and mono-stay mean, but I'm presuming it means each seat stay continues to the lug on the back of the...

    "COOL TOOL" HEADSET SPANNER 36mm

Still carry mine in its little yellow/green pouch. Bought it in 1992 and find it really useful to have a chain tool, spoke key, allen keys and spanner all in one. I've had a couple of the headset spanner attachements, but both split in two when they dropped onto the garage floor on their first...

    BBB stem extender........it works !!!

Hi, can I just check something about this please? Sorry if I'm being a bit thick  My threaded streeer only just comes to the top of the head tube, not enough to even start to thread the headset on. Am I right that this kit would then work if I bought an aheadset and ahead stem...
