1997 GT RTS All Terra Mountain Bike Advice on Bearings and Handlebars/Accessories Due to Hand Pain

Thanks for your reply. He implied if those had gone, it would be scrap. I'd be interested in replacing bushings with bearings! I just need to know exactly what to order (names, sizes etc). Wow, I can't find a replacement seat post that's around 26cm long anywhere that can deliver in time for...

1997 GT RTS All Terra Mountain Bike Advice on Bearings and Handlebars/Accessories Due to Hand Pain

Hey all, I can't believe my first post was all the way back in 2008 for this bike. Got it out again this year and it's had a decent service. The chap who serviced it said the bearings in the rear suspension ideally need replacing, but he said it may not be possible to find the parts needed? He...

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

Thank you all for your help. How much are you talking about to get the replacements you suggested? How do I tell which brake levers I have? The cables are about a year old.

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

At the very least I need new brake pads, they are extremely worn. I weigh 12 stone. What kind of brake levers? What types are there? They look pretty standard to me. They tuned the brakes to the rims that were on the bike at the time, but I put others on because I wanted to use slicks rather...

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

Hello, I know it's been a while but I've not changed anything regarding the brakes. I've had the bike serviced a number of times now and things haven't really improved. So I was wondering what v brakes to get for the front and rear? The avids have been discontinued...

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

xizang, would I be okay with this front disc brake that has been offered and the disc calipers? I would like confirmation that this combination would not require me to change the lever/shifter combination I already have.

xizang, thanks for the offer, but I still don't know the answer to my question so I cannot say.

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

They would simply replace the v-brakes without having to change anything on the handlebards?

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

Ah, but my shifters and brake levers are combined.

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

I currently have XTR v-brakes, aren't these pretty good? Would it be that bad to buy an adapter and get two lots of disc brakes? I don't want my handlebars to look daft with two different types of brake levers and shifters.

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

Do you think that I would need the same size for the front as well if I want to get rid of the booster whilst I choose the right disc brakes?

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

Hello, thank you very much for this information. Where would it be best for me to purchase these?

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

What would I need in order to get rid of the booster so that I could tighten it all with a screw which is tapped all the way?
  16. T

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

I did think about removing the boster, but the screws aren't tapped all the way along their length, so they cannot secure all the components without the booster (which I want to get rid of anyway). I don't have a tapping tool.

    What is a booster?

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

Hello, why would you recommend I keep the rear v-brake and change the front to an avid disc brake? I'm just interested to know why people are saying what they are! I've taken the rear v-brake apart and just can't see why when I test it out to make sure the adjustments have worked that it does...

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

Just need the name of the adaptor... By the way, although it is being used as a commuter bike, once done up properly it will be used cross-country (during the holidays).

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

Right, thank you both for your suggestions. The wheels are Zac 19's with Shimano hubs: My brakes are integrated into my shifters.
