    1991 Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra

Re: Lovely bike, and what a beautiful commuter! My corsa slx rides beautifully and its heritage (ex-Günther Haritz, Olympic gold medallist in '72) was an accidental bonus!

Re: Merckx Corsa Extra (finished pics pg5) Lovely build, well done. I never did hear back from the cycling club regarding its previous owner, sorry about that.

Merckx Corsa Extra in SLX with rather special provenance!

Re: Hi Jamie, I'm certainly enjoying the Rolls saddle more than the Brooks Professional that I tried first. The bike rides really nicely, it has a lovely springy feel to it, but TBH any steel bike with 622/25 tyres would on the smooth roads near me north of Frankfurt. The handlebars are a bit...

Some better photos. A bit of free time from work coincided with some rather glorious weather:

    Merckx Corsa Extra

Re: I´ve emailed the club and will see if they get back to me. If so I´ll post it on here! I´ll also ask Pietro Wetzler in town, I bet he will know him as he´s into the RTF stuff too.

Info r.e. Uwe Brell on my Merckx thread.

Ok, so Uwe Brell lives pretty near me in Sossenheim. He's an active RTF rider (bit like Audax) in his 70's, winning all his age group competitions. Sounds like a bit of a legend by all accounts.

Merckx Corsa Extra in SLX with rather special provenance!

Re: Hi, no, not logged any miles as yet, plenty of commuting miles and a few training sorties but on my Cyclocross bike so far this spring. Illness and injury permitting I'll be out on it this coming week. I will post some better photos too. As far as the build is concerned one could...

Possibly the worst three ´identify my bike´ photos ever!

I personally think it´s an own-brand frame sold by the Pohlmann bike shop in Hanau in the 80s. Unfortunately Pohlmann aren´t around any more so the trail goes cold there. Still, nice wee winter bike and an easy build from the parts bin. Rides very nicely indeed.

This one cleaned up quite nicely in the end: Don´t hassle me about driveway moss, it´s the neighbour´s garage.

Right. Build finished. My Lumix bridge camera has decided it wants to stop fucussing correctly so apologies for the crappy photos. For some reason it worked a bit better with the washing machine behind the bike. Full stats: Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra, Columbus SLX, ex-Günther Haritz...

Merckx Corsa Extra in SLX with rather special provenance!

Re: Just waiting for the Eubios bars to arrive from Berlin, then I can complete the build. Looking at the amount of snow on the ground here in Frankfurt though, I fear the maiden voyage might not be for some time.

    Mavic 840 with Athena 11

Cooker, I think you're the only person in the world trying to do this! One of the many problems you will have is that the top derailler pulley has no float so the indexing has to be absolutely bang on. I'm all for mixing and matching stuff, i do it myself, but I think you might be on a road to...

Merckx Corsa Extra in SLX with rather special provenance!

Sooo, brief update time. The Cinelli panto´d stem takes a 26.4mm handlebar. I like a drop bar to have an anatomic bend, shallow drop and be as wide as possible. So there was only one contender, the Cinelli Eubios. Unfortunately they are as rare as brass monkey´s testicles, but an extensive...

    7 speed shifter options

You're very welcome! Whether you will get on with the Shimano button STI units depends very much on your bike fit and riding style. If you prefer to be in the drops, then the buttons are usually a bit too much of a stretch for anyone without a Chimpanzee thumb, they're too far up the shifter...

I am officially going to clean up Bike Corner when I get back from Basel this weekend, and I will post a photo as proof. Promise.

    7 speed shifter options

7-speed RSX, Sora, Tiagra. Possibly 105 too but I'm not sure. The RSX have paddles under the brake levers like the higher-end stuff and are very nice. 7-speed Sora and Tiagra have the little downshift button further up, which is generally disliked although it never bothered me. New tourney...

Possibly the worst three ´identify my bike´ photos ever!

Well, we have lugs, but no decals anywhere. The bike shop on the label does not exist anymore. My LBS mechanic has no clue, the drop outs are ´no-name´, I reckon it´s just an LBS own brand special. The bike corner could do with a bit of a tidy up too! Pictures were taken pre-strip down!

Evening chaps, I´m picking up this little beauty tomorrow. Can anyone (insert Rolf Harris voice) ´guess what it is yet´? The photos are terrible, but I don´t want to make things too easy. Reynolds 501 frame, so possibly a keeper. The colour scheme reminds me of an early 90s Raleigh...
