    help needed

    thanks to all who replied on this last yer. Have just got round to stripping the frame completely to give it a good clean. Rebuilt with some new parts and some parts borrowed off a never used GT I found in my Dad's garage. Its all working and looks a bit better now I cleaned it. Thanks all.

    i actually have a bike that looks like the same frame. mine is a 96 gt avalanche so the decals arw different. also needs a good frame polish. also recently found a new old stock gt timberline in my dads garage so soon going to replace all the bit on my avalanche.

    I have a 96 gt avalanche that needs some components on the drivetrain replacing ( chainrings chain and cassette ) currently it is 24 speed but it seems hard to get parts that are the same now. Are 9 or 10 speed components compatible ? thanks all

    20 years at an original cost of £700 is not bad value for money. I just dont think it will last me another 20 years LOL

    Re: Thanks to all. Just looked through some old GT bikes brochures I found on this website and my bike is def a '96. The avalanche in 1997 had v brakes not cantis. I will assume march as the month as that seems to tie up with other information I found about GT serial numbers. Thanks all...

    Supermarket shopping trolley is for shopping at the supermarket. Obviously ! LOL Actually I 'borrowed' it to cut up as I need to make a mesh frame go to on the outside of a window.

    I have an old ball burnished GT avalanche that is looking a bit dated these days. Does anyone know of any companies around Peterborough or east of england that will strip and restore frames ? Also any idea of what this could cost ? Any help will be appreciated.

    V brake / Canti Lever

    Always had Shimano Canti brakes on my 96 GT and never felt that they were underpowered. Just need to set them up to use as little pull as possible with good pads and they are OK. I used to be an 18 stone rider at one point so I know they work LOL

    Re: My '96 GT avalanche owned since new. Mostly original apart from wear and tear. Using now to commute to and from work with a little light off roading every now and again.
