For Sale 1988 Muddy Fox Courier

I have to admit defeat.. my garage is full of bike, and I no longer have the health to ride them, so it's selling up time! First up is my 1988 Muddy Fox Courier, which is unusual in that it's technically a Tushingham B52 wearing red trousers and someone else's name badge. It still pretty...

Found it! The seatpost is marked as 26.4. I'm glad you asked, because I bet I would've binned it without thinking. :P

no updates so far, I'm afraid. I need to get it powder coated next, but I haven't had the spare time/cash to do it. I'll see if I can find where the seat post ended up. I suspect it's gotten pushed behind some bathroom furniture that's currently filling 80% of my shed (that also hasn't helped...

crank's off! ... and the bb came off really easily after all that hassle. whoever last serviced the bike was really liberal with the grease. :) the frame's now ready to be powder coated, but I'm skint, so it'll have to wait until August. :( i dug about in my parts box, and it looks like i...

I gave up on cutting through the crank, as it was taking ages, and I was worried about catching the wotsit. er.. spindle? So, time for some chemistry fun! I'm hoping the caustic soda will eat around the square. A bit of time will tell..

It's paint friendly, as far as I know, unlike the white vinegar that I tried first. Neither of them strip the paint, but the white vinegar faded it a tiny bit (and didn't work very well on the rust). I'm looking forward to seeing how it does on my rust-heap Muddy Fox Pathfinder. :)

Fear not; the paint is safe. :) I gave the BB a bath in Evaporust for 24 hours, and it's rust-free! Now to work out how to seal the frame properly. I don't fancy getting covered in Kurust!

For Sale Muddy Fox Courier Prestige

I was tempted, but it was (rightly) a bit out of my price range. Hope it goes for a bit more than 99p!

I dunno if you can tell the difference, but things are looking better in the bb shell: It sat in white vinegar for two days, which did loosen up some of the rust, but there's still some to go, and I'm not sure if the lumps in the threads are actually rust. I might go over them with a Dremel...

Here's the result of my rust removal yesterday: The metal's not too shabby underneath the flakeyness. :) Today, I cut the seatpost bolt, and the seat is now off. Just the crank to go, and it's still resisting the extractor tool. I've tried strategically hitting it with a hammer, but that...

Having read the rattle can guide again, i don't think i have the time to respray it myself. i contacted a powder coater, and they said £45 for the frame, forks, and stem, so that's definitely tempting! I had a go at the bubbly rust, just to see what was under the flaking. it was pretty craggy...

updates! :D Slowly getting it down to just a frame. The drive side crank is a bit stuck, as I can't get my crank removal tool to engage the thread. As it's an aluminium crank, I could have at it with caustic soda if I run out of other options.. it was raining a bit, so I didn't want to...

I had a go at it in my lunchbreak, and got everything apart from the seat tube and BB removed. The seat swivels, so I don't think it's seized, but one of the hex slots in the seat bolt has rounded out on one side, and is just twisting in place without releasing the seat tube enough. I tried...

The easiest way to start this build is to link to the sales ad that I collected from: free muddy vox pathfinder for restoration by enthusiast I had a feeling from the initial posts that the seller wasn't too bike savvy, so rather than ask questions, I thought I'd take a punt and sent a PM with...

Karma Free, Muddy Vox Pathfinder, for restoration by enthusiast.

Sorry about the quick post earlier - I had to get my son to bed, but also wanted to share the photo. The seller was in a really nice village just outside Huddersfield. She'd been clearing out her shed, which was tiny. Probably used to be for storing coal or something, as it was half-height...

i haven't tried anything, yet. i think i need to clean up the frame before i worry about being able to remove bits, just in case there's anything more than surface rust. the bottom of the steerer tube looks worryingly misshapen, so that's public enemy #1

I had a sneaky tug during my lunchbreak, and it came off! 😀 I had visions of having to attack it with an angle grinder. 😧 I'm not surprised the fork was grinding; the bearings were completely dry, without even sludge to get between the bearings and metal. A nice little pile of rust particles...

fanx! I think I might've used t-cut at one point, as my car at the time was the same colour, but I'm not entirely sure. I certainly use turtle wax on it, mostly to try and keep the rust in check and protect the rest from dings. That stuff works wonders. :)

I thought I'd replied to this thread, but apparently not! I've got one of them there fancypants red Couriers. Despite a lot of patina, it scrubs up pretty well, and the rough look means that I can lock it up outside the local Sainsburys without worrying too much about some scrote...
