    Bar end plugs/reinforcement/BERTS

Thanks Ferrus. I had vaguely wondered if I could make some from oak - I cut heaps for firewood! Might try local machine shop first though.

    Bar end plugs/reinforcement/BERTS

They are 118 bars. So very thin. I am thinking that metal inserts/plugs are needed but haven't seen anything "off the shelf" that looks suitable.

    Bar end plugs/reinforcement/BERTS

Anyone found/made suitable end plugs for attaching bar ends to thin-walled Ti bars? Looks like the original reinforcement plugs/BERTS were quite thick walled. http://pedaldamnit.blogspot.com/2006/09/titec-118-tale-of-2-berts.html

    Bar end plugs/reinforcement/BERTS

I just got a lovely set of lightweight Titec Ti bars for a build (thanks Murray). I want to mount bar ends but the bars didn't come with the BERTS - the reinforcing plugs to prevent damage. Any advice what should be using?

    Saracen BackTrax

Saddle to bar height actually looks quite relaxed by retro standards! But riser bar or shorter stem (with rise) will both sit you more upright. If replacing bar you need 25.4 mm. Modern ones are fatter (31.8 mm) and won't fit through the stem. I don't know if that fork has a 1" or 1 and...

    Saracen BackTrax

Might be good to post up a photo of the bike as it is now (side view) so we can see saddle/bar set up as it is now.. Chances are a shorter stem, maybe with a bit more rise, would help. You could also put on a riser bar with some back-sweep in place of the flat bar. The rise will move your hand...

It was someone on here flagged them up under a "cheap tyres" heading. I bought a couple of different sets. Great price. Arrived as expected. All good. Hope it works out for you.

    ID on this ‘90s Saracen?

Welcome to Retrobike. I have no clue re the bike but someone will know and you'll find an archive of Saracen catalogues to dig through here https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/saracen-catalogues-1987-1998.191473/

    Saracen BackTrax

Yes - 90s bikes tend to have relatively low bars. Riser bars, shorter stem or stem with a bit more rise would give you a more upright riding position. As Tootyred says, you can probably find more info the archives here https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/saracen-catalogues-1987-1998.191473/...
