    pace elastomer preservation

When I rebuilt my mxcd's the helpful chap at Pace said that repeated compressions (i.e. using the forks) causes the elastomers to get shorter and fatter. The old ones I took out from the forks certainly were relative to the new ones, and I guess eventually that will be what drives their...

STX RC 7 to 8 speed possible?

Thanks tatra - makes sense to me, and I'm sure the hub would benefit from some TLC!

STX RC 7 to 8 speed possible?

Cheers, that's great news! :D I can cope with that, but not sure I fully understand... I assume the 8 speed freehub body is physically longer than the 7 spd (in order that it can accept the extra sprocket), does this mean something has to come off the other side of the hub in order that...

STX RC 7 to 8 speed possible?

Stumbled upon this old thread on STX / STX RC groupsets (including some fantastic info from drystonepaul http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... highlight= and have a question for those in the know: I've got a 1995 STX RC rear hub with a 7 speed cassette (MC33 based on the thread...

    Tyre / inner tube gremlins

Cheers Chute55uk - can't anything online to suggest endemic issues with these tyres/tubes but it sounds like a plausible explanation to me. Never had anything like this before, and I rode a lot as a teenager and had my fair share of punctures, but was beginning to wonder whether I know what...

    Tyre / inner tube gremlins

Hi craiga, thanks for your comments. Nope, hasn't been anywhere, literally pumped them up, popped them back onto the bike and and left it where it was - hasn't been sat on or wheeled anywhere. Only stuck 20 psi in as didn't want the tyres getting distorted / flat spots from sitting there...

    Tyre / inner tube gremlins

Ok, was going to add to ededwards current puncture-related thread, but this is getting daft and I really need your thoughts/opinions as I'm starting to go mad. The night before last I decided that the Zaskar restoration doesn't preclude me from riding the thing whilst I sort out the parts it...

    GT Zaskar LE 1996

Looking good! 8) I'm building up an identical frame (18" I'm guessing?) but have yet to get busy with the polish as I've still a few components to source. Did you leave the original decals in place or get new ones?

    1991 GT Zaskar

Zas-Kar - that's a fantastic tip re the aluminium duct tape! I've currently got some Pace carbon fibre effect patches doing this job, but patches aren't attractive and so I was wondering how to protect my frame more discreetly once it's shiny again. Nice one, problem solved! 8)

    1991 GT Zaskar

**idiot question alert** - looks like a negative rise, can I assume it flips over to give a positive rise (hence the name)? :D It's a little before my time (I'd have been 11 in 1991). I like the fact that it's not "perfect" (please don't take this as a criticism, it isn't intended to) as you...

    1997 Zaskar

Looking good! The bombers are a nice match for the frame colour. If you're unhappy with the Kore I'd swap it for an X Lite - the Kore may be more close to the original spec, but your build hasn't taken that direction. I guess I'd focus on getting it riding the way you want it to, but it's...
