    Dynamo light and charger insight

    Honestly it’s not noticeable.

    Dynamo light and charger insight

Frankly I never noticed a difference. It’s less than the difference between a clean or dirty chain, or tyre pressure.

    Cantilever Brake Masterclass

And that's the point - with so much variation in frame design, canti boss spacing etc, most people have no idea what length they need and the odds are they will get it wrong. The type with a button and a section of outer (whose length can be trimmed) are much better and they avoid the flaw of...

    Dynamo light and charger insight

I've run them for more than a decade. I need to do an update on my setup in another thread. Personally when touring I always take lights - I've had several occasions when transport delays and other problems have led me to be riding in the dark unplanned. Generally this is a dynamo. The problem...

Best vintage rear derailleur (thats fairly easily available) for friction

I'd go M730/735 XT, simply because long cage is easily available and you will probably need one for a triple.

    3DV Purple on a 95 bike?

Some is good, more is better, too much is about right. Enjoy, but just make sure it's not everything. The 'ano puked all over it' look isn't great - in the same way that the modern 'everything black' trend looks dreadful too.

    3DV Purple on a 95 bike?

Marin was doing purple on its bikes in 1995. So it's totally contemporary.

Middleburn cranks / bb width q?

Typically it's 113 for a square taper Middleburn RS7. I sometimes got trouble with some front mechs - typically the Shimano low-band type - which can need a longer BB for the mech to reach the inner chainring reliably.

    Marin frame commonality

Bear Valley SE and Eldridge had the same frame, the plain BV shared it with Palisades. Around 1992-95 the Pine Mountain shared a common frame with Eldridge and BVSE. Later Pine Mountains had nicer tubesets, but by then the lesser ones had generally gone to aluminium.

    F4 BLT stuck/rounded bolt removal

In the same circumstances I have bought Torx bits, taken a file to the ridges and tapered the ends a little. Then hammer into the Allen head and remove with a socket spanner with the correct drive adaptor or a locked electric drill. You need to keep pushing the bit in as you turn. Obviously...

Am I so out of touch with modern cycling?

Matt black bikes are just so UGLY. Painting a bike black immediately makes it look 2kgs heavier. 🤮

Help needed to id claud bulter & yr

Definitely a Sugino as it has the concealed 5th bolt, Shimano never did that.

    What would you do.

Looks like a perfect pub / station / commuter bike that will get chained up unattended.

    Brooks Competition Saddle

A bit of riding and the rivets will be nicely buffed up. Generally it's better to use Brooks Proofide for the saddle - dubbin softens the leather and it can stretch too much. Also put Proofide on the BACK, which then seals the leather nicely.

    Getting rid of a mouse

I use KitKat stuck down with peanut butter. A blob of nutella also works. The key thing is to have the trap close to a trail or run, if you can find one.

Sorted Non-drive side crank - 170mm, JIS fit (Shimano, etc) - 70s/80s style

ISO fit is Campag. Shimano and (almost) everyone else is JIS taper.

A wheelies @nd crash thread • road race

Not sure I agree - I remember hideous pile-ups in 90s tour sprints, plus fatalities in pro races in the 90s too.
