    can't decide on handlebar shape?

    Apparently not a weight weenie.

    Shimano vs Sram

I was never a fan of gripshift ergonomically, but i admired its simplicity. Microshift sells twist shifters too.

Attractive Seatpost Quick Release Replacement Solutions

Ok, here are some photos of the seat cluster. So from the tape it looks like I need at least 40mm clear on a QR with the nut and washers fastened. The too short DX QR in the first photo fits perfectly and is 5-6mm in diameter.

Attractive Seatpost Quick Release Replacement Solutions

I think it's the larger diameter. I will measure tonight and get back to you. Would be awesome to source something period correct - they just look right.

Attractive Seatpost Quick Release Replacement Solutions

I have a Ritchey Ultra with Tom's classic fastback seat stay design. The frame came sans seatpost quick release and the frame requires a relatively long quick release so none of the period correct ones I've picked up over the years fits. I managed to buy an aftermarket modern version, but it was...

Fresh from the Time Machine ... 1988 Ritchey Ultra

I know that this is an old thread, but since I posted on here in 2017 I picked up what I believe to be an 88 Ultra frame in black and it has a pump peg as well. Apologies for the bump, but I just pulled mine out of the rafters and it has me thinking about all things Ultra at the moment.

    The Ritchey Project

Yes, ive wasted some hours drooling over the fillet brazed frames. Which reminds me I need to upload some photos of mine for posterity.

Scabby Ritchey Ultra Dirt Drop Build

Since posting I tore it down, stuck it in the rafters and dragged it back out to rebuild it (likely similar to the posted photo). I have toyed seriously with a strip and fresh powdercoat in white to match the fork. Although I'm torn with powdercoating the whole thing black to respect its...

    The Ritchey Project

Hey Retrobikers. I don't know if this has been discussed before (I searched the site and didn't get a hit), but I discovered this vintage Ritchey bike database and thought i'd share it. It's a good place to find some catalogues and to compare your serial number to the ones posted up by other...

    Gearing for old legs

I have a pair of these on my steel gravel / winter commuter bike and I like them. Some people complain that the rings are too soft / wear out too fast. I think I've had mine for 4 or 5 seasons now and they're still fine. VO also sells a 110 BCD version in drillium. I found a set with a 32 / 48...

    Would you ride 150mm cranks?

There has been a lot of talk about traditional crank lengths being too long and there being benefits - even for taller riders - in going shorter. So, sure, i'd give it a try if a pair fell into my lap. I'd probably be hard pressed to go out and source a set of short ones deliberately though.

    Rocky Mountain Hammer

Ya, the photo I was looking at had no wishbone, an chainstay mounted u-brake, no sloping top tube, the seat tube virtually flush with the top tube...effectively looked like the 88 Fusion I had in my youth. I have a 93 Hammer I built up for my son after stripping the parts for another build...

    Rocky Mountain Hammer

It looks ancient - I have trouble accepting that that was produced post 1990 by RM. I will need to look at the catalogues. Edited, to confirm that I was looking at a different bike. I have to say I've never seen one in that colour scheme locally.

    Rocky Mountain Hammer

Ya, that pretty much confirms it for me - the OP's bike is post 85 pre 90.

    Rocky Mountain Hammer

Didn't 90's vintage Hammers have a sloping top tube? I keep looking at the bike and the frame really reminds me of the late 80's RM's like my old Fusion. Particularly with the chain stay mounted U-brake. That's exactly what my Fusion came with.

    GT Tequesta 1992

I have to admit I wasn't a big fan of GT's BITD - thought the 3xtriangle frame design was just a marketing ploy. I did test ride earlier versions of the Tequesta against the Kona Cinder Cone, Rocky Mountain Fusion, etc. Now in the fullness of time I appreciate GT bikes and have even added a...

I cracked - Kona Kontent (scabby 94 Cinder Cone).

there is a fair bit of surface rust on the chips - it certainly didn't live an easy life.
