8 Freight restoration and advice needed please.

I don't own mine anymore sadly, but original don't think the stand was true vertical no. Slightly forward sounds right. There are a couple of guys on here wayyy more knowledgeable on these, calling @mynchiboy @LunarBike

8 Freight restoration and advice needed please.

Yeah, mine had a gas strut. And the lever was just a cheapo thumb shifter on the handlebars, running friction. So both easy fixes :)

I really like these and have missed out on a few over the years. This one is miles away from me. Cool project for someone though.

    Sold Kona Lava Dome 1997

Thanks for the positive comments on this. Had some interest, but ultimately it's still here! My Cannondale M400 will be being cleaned up and sold shortly too, but it's more "commuter" spec so may not appeal on here.

    Sold Kona Lava Dome 1997

Yeh I'm around that height, but ran it with a stem with a bit more rise, and some 60mm riser bars! Seat post goes high enough though.

    Sold Kona Lava Dome 1997

Kona Lava Dome for sale I've owned this for about 6 years, but it's been hung up for the last few other than running errands with a child seat on. I'm clearing some room, so sadly this has to go. - 19" - 1997 - Later p2 forks, disk and canti mounts, 44.5cm - Original chainset and mechs (its...

Why are thumb shifters so prized in the retrobike community?

Choice components for 'make do and mend' type cyclists. For example, I recently needed to renew a chain & cassette on an old 7 speed bike, and decided to use up some 'NOS' spares from the parts bin. Could only find an 8 speed cassette to replace the previous 7 speed. No problem, just flick the...

    Retrobike Touring.

I was well overdue a short bike camping trip, the last time being 2018. A lot has happened since then, namely 2 children, but I’ve been gradually gathering better kit since my first foray, and was itching to try it all out. This time I hoped to do 2 x nights to give me a better feeling of...

Sorted Long shot - 140mm stem wanted in Bolton/Bury/Manchester etc

Sorted now; the beauty of collecting bikes is that I can always take another! (stem ordered from ebay, a job for next week).

Sorted Long shot - 140mm stem wanted in Bolton/Bury/Manchester etc

Massive long shot. But I am building a bike up for a short tour this BH weekend. It's too small and I need more reach. Current Stem is 110mm, I need at least 30mm more. So...140mm or 150mm stem. Aheadset. 25.4mm bars. I'd want to pick it up, like today/tomorrow  Joe

A large Saracen Kiliflyer £70 Wigan

I saw this too but trying to resist. The mention of it being painted was enough to hold me back....for now. Probably not top far from me either.

Carrying bags on front of bike advice sought

That's a good point. Usually end up riding hillier routes although I'm considering a jaunt through Cheshire, which would be a bit flatter. I just need to get some trial runs in to find what I like. More doing, less procrastinating!!!
