    26" Tyre recommendations?

I’ve run Halo Freedom rims tubeless with no problems, both with the split inner tube ghetto method and with tape.

Run the Smorg tubeless, that’ll sort your puncture issues.

    26" Tyre recommendations?

Re: Re: I’ve never used them on the front because the Chunky Monkey is good for that but for a rear tyre I can recommend them.

    26" Tyre recommendations?

On-One Smorgasbords - 2.25”, go up easily tubeless and reasonably priced by today’s tyre standards. Made by Maxxis and available in single and dual compound. I’ve used them as a rear tyre on my singlespeeds, in conjunction with a 2.4” Chunky Monkey on the front, ever since they were first...

    Kona Unit 26er SS

Re. seat clamp - if it’s a 27.2mm seatpost then I would say, on a steel frame, that it’s 99% certain that it’ll be 30mm. Salsa is the best, imho. Check other stuff for what appears to be BB noise - rear wheel QR not tight enough, sprocket needing grease on the freehub, chainring loose on cranks...

A 29” wheel plus a suspension fork will add too much height. You’d be better off using rigid forks of around 440-460mm axle/crown. The best choice (imho) would be Singular Gryphon forks - 445mm a/c and with 55mm offset.

    Great big Singlespeed thread!

Re: Any idea what the offset is on those forks? Doesn’t look a lot but it could be an illusion, of course.

    Great big Singlespeed thread!

I haven't had this frame that long (only a few months) as it always seemed to elude me. But, it appeared again in May and my wife bought it for me as an early 65th birthday present. It's as excellent as the steel version but about a pound lighter and has the extra niceness of rarity, I...

    Marzocchi z1 rc2 eta

Re: Good evening! I've got a couple of documents on file which I'm happy to send you - I'll have to send them as email attachments though, as they're pdf's and I can't attach them to this reply. As far as the 12mm socket goes you ideally need a thin walled hex (not bi-hex), I can't recall it...

    Great big Singlespeed thread!

Only difference between the io and io/id frames is the singlespeed frame has no cable guides for the gear cable - just use cable ties.

Rawed steel frame, can I ?

If you want you keep the welding oxide colours then you'll have to chemically strip it, rather than have it blasted.

Magura Hyraulic Brakes. What is this witchcraft?

It's most certainly not hygroscopic, hydrophobic if anything.

    marzocchi air fork conversion

Re: If it already has an air valve on the spring side then, yes, you can certainly try it. If not, any Marzocchi top cap the right size with an air valve would do. You'll need to play about with oil levels to get a usable air spring proggresion as the level that's used with the spring will just...

    Alfine / single speed question

Re: Re: 5th gear is the direct gear on an 8 speed Alfine, so try that out and see how it would feel as singlespeed gearing. 34:18 would be too high for me around here but it might me fine for where and what you ride. If you want different gearing then have two chains for the two lengths you...

    Magura Louisa bleeding

Re: Re: Can work if you just want to shift a few stubborn air bubbles but obviously won't if you need to do a full bleed.

Chameleon (or similar) drop out inset??

Like this then? Obviously the pair though.

    Magura Louisa bleeding

Well, I haven't got any pictures either but basically you set the lever so that the reservoir is horizontal and then remove the cap. Remove the bleed screw in the caliper and connect the bleed adapter and hose (I use the same one as for Magura rim brakes) and fill a syringe with mineral oil...
