Should I use protection with a 30 year old American?

Me stupid.....i thought this thread is about AMERICAN frames and bicycles. Concerning drilling a drain hole into the bb shell, as long as you grease the seat tube/seat post sufficiently water inside the shell shouldn´t be an issue. And i don´t like the general "idea" to put holes...

    Cannondale M800 on the way

Highly depends upon what is "usual"* in your opinion. But if the paint damages are modest it sounds like a good deal. * a picture tells more than thousands of words :xmas-big-grin:

how do you tell if titanium is titanium?

Not as rapid as titanium. Ti stains within a (few) second(s) depending on the amount of heat applied.

how do you tell if titanium is titanium?

Use a small gas torch or a bunsen burner at low heat output to heat it at some well hidden part of the surface. -If it first changes from titanium/aluminum grey to yellow and - upon further heating - from yellow to blue, it IS titanium. - if it stays grey-whitish, it IS aluminum And this post...

What is a Suntour XCD 6000 derailleur worth?

12-25 €, depending on the condition. They were 6speed derailleurs with a geometry slightly different than the last revision of the Accushift derailleurs. So the use of them is kind of restricted. edit: since you mentioned 6/7speed by yourself; there were two different versions out. The first...

    early CANNONDALE

I think it´s an unofficial repaint since the tubing isn´t Ritchey Logic (which means steel iirc). And yes, it´s a 1990 frame.

1987 Cannondale SM800 - Time machines do exist

I apologise for not tripping earlier over this thread. A piece of art. I really LOVE those eighties Cannondales. Everything - from components to the head badge logo still has the allurement of beginning. :xmas-big-grin: :xmas-cool: And the size of the frame adds to the overall bright picture.

Suntour Xc pro GG headset any good?

There were two different styles of head sets out regarding the XC Pro group. One without ball retainers and 26 loosely inserted bearing balls/race (i believe the earlier version) and one with convenient ball retainers housing 22 balls/race. The second one is a pretty good head set - in line with...

    Dia Compe levers

The difference between SS-7 and XC Expert is evident. The XC Expert shares a lot (if not all) with the Dia Compe SS-4. The design of the SS-7 is much more "rounded" and "organical". Personally i prefer the look of the SS-4 over the SS-7, but i drive one pair of SS-7 levers since about twenty...

Show me your roller cams, U brakes

You/he have/has to look for the original XC Roller Cams. They came with "male" studs, but these are hard to find, much harder than the later XC Sport, XC Sport 7000, XCD 6000 and so on. A pic from a 1984 catalogue:
