1998 Salsa Ala Carte and 2002 Brodie Kinetic

I'll take a photo or two, no problem. The ride is great! Lively, responsive, not too stiff. Frame tube selection seems spot-on. Geo is a bit dated, but funnily enough it's almost exactly the same length as my ~20 year younger Stanton Switchback. Head angle is the only real difference between...

1998 Salsa Ala Carte and 2002 Brodie Kinetic

I've changed the forks. The Z2 made some strange ticking noise after I messed up the landing of a step-down jump made for modern bikes. As per the norm, I got it for a very reasonable price. Astonishingly though, this Manitou SX R looks almost brand new, except for some tyre marks on the inside...

Thanks! Getting noticed by other trail users or generally other people is definitely one benefit. On the other hand hubs can be too loud, imo as well. Tastes do change however. 10 years or so ago I liked loud hubs. 5 years or so ago I started to prefer less noisy hubs. The noise of the DT in...

    Bontrager Race Lite

Luckily I have not dealt with e-bikes, except for a mid-enginged cargo bike. I've merely used grease to prevent corrosion and did not have problems with decreased spoke tension, it seems at least. I'll keep it in mind. Thanks!

    Bontrager Race Lite

Are we still talking about lubricated spoke threads? If that's the case, interesting point.

Also depends on the kind of grease, I guess. I've been using blue Mobil1, the stuff Hope puts in their hubs; it's fairly sticky but does not form lumps.

    Bontrager Race Lite

I've read that putting a dab of blue Loctite on the nipple ends after building the wheels should prevent with water ingress. I've been using Sapim nipples for a long time and they've held up well. I do use grease on the spoke threads.

    Bikes and Trees

Did that as well about a year ago, also with child. Tram tracks were covered with snow; no way of telling or reacting.

    Bikes and Trees

This elderberry bush is so old it looks more like a tree. It's right next to the bike path I ride to work.

I'd put it on a wall opposite the couch.

    Funk A.S.F; another unicorn…

Well, depends on what you want to do with the bike then. Have you tried looking for someone to service this shock in the UK?

    Funk A.S.F; another unicorn…

I'd have it serviced. Any sort of rubber seal is going to be rock hard and unwilling to do it's job after this amount of time.

    2013 Genesis Fortitude Singlespeed

I've had a guy offering to lend me the jig and ordered the couplers. But the couplers were lost in transit. So not much progress. The frame is still in one piece.

    2013 Genesis Fortitude Singlespeed

Nice fleet! There definitely is a version of the Cromoto with very similar fork offset. Despite the obvious differences in the builds, they should ride/steer quite differently, do they? The truss fork looks spectacular! Love those. Did you repaint the frame to have it match the Singular fork...

    2013 Genesis Fortitude Singlespeed

New stem, bars and grips for the Fortitude old new I'm a big fan of CNC stems and this came up for sale quite reasonably priced. Looks really good and saves a good bit of weight. But the bolts the stem is specced with do not instill confidence. T20 M4 Torx bolts for the bars and T15...

    1993 Brodie Catalyst

@PanoIgano As Henne indicated, WD40 is no viable lubricant (for anything). I'd suggest repacking those bearings with proper grease and use some light grease for the ratchet mechanism. DT nowadays provides special grease for their star ratchets. Should be no problem to pick some of that up in a...

Nicely done! I'd suggest getting some riser bars to do that stem shaft a favor though ;)
