    aluminium frame repair

Re: Having asked a few frame repair guys about best options, the preferred route seems to be to cut the old one off and make good and then use a riveted-on mount. I figured welding would be very expensive and require re-heat treatment and paint, so the riveted option seems the most pragmatic...

    aluminium frame repair

I forgot to say that the seat post is teardrop-shaped so I'd discounted the idea of using a banded adapter, but I'll have to have a look at the endless adapter type. I contacted my local frame repairer, but they only do steel so I'll have to look further afield to find one that does aluminium...

    aluminium frame repair

The front derailleur mount on my GT Edge Aero has been damaged beyond the point where the derailleur will correctly align. The mounting face is indented from the clamp and the slot distorted due to abuse over the years, so I think the mount needs to be removed and re-welded. Any ideas if this is...

    Rockshox Judy XLC internals

Re: Doing some research now based on your wiki - it's really helpful, thanks. I also loved your FSR rebuild tale :) Looking at the pictures in your wiki in more detail, I think I may have found a flaw in my plan. Picture 4 seems to show that the hydracoil stanchion is different to the old...

    Rockshox Judy XLC internals

Re: Thanks for the article Thias that maybe what I'm after. I don't have the forks available at the moment to take photos but attached are the exploded diagrams from the manuals. The insides of the XLC forks look similar to XC's with the addition of a spacer rod, but I think the springs might...

    Rockshox Judy XLC internals

I've got a pair of Judy XLC's on my GT LTS which are the spring and cartridge variety (type 3?). They're long since past their best before date and I was wondering if I can rejuvenate them by installing the internals from a 1999-2002 era Hydracoil service kit. Does anyone know if this is...

    shimano axle cones

how interchangeable are the cones for a shimano rear axle? I've got an M755 rear axle that's about given up the ghost (bearings and cones are pitted), however, the availability of spare cones seems pretty scarce now. Is it feasable to use a more readily available (more modern) cone with the...

    panniers on a GT hardtail

thanks for the replies guys - it seems like p-clips on the seat stays is probably the way to go. The only snag is that I am running an A2Z disc brake adaptor which obscures the tapped holes for the lower mounting point. I might have to bite the bullet and get a disc specific rack or the tubus...

    panniers on a GT hardtail

me and a few mates have been toying with the idea of a camping expedition on the bikes (nothing too extreme). We planned to carry tents, sleeping bags, etc on the bike, but my GT hardtail does not have the fixings to allow the fitting of a sturdy rear rack for panniers. I seen a few variants...

I use Schwalbe Marathon Cross on my daily commute - found them to be very good in most conditions and give some puncture protection as well.

    Suntour SL chains

I have a friend who has a Raleigh Dynatech 605ti that has a Suntour SL groupset. He has managed to snap one of the chain links, so is now after a new chain. I know nothing about Suntour stuff, but would imagine that it would be compatible with a Shimano chain. Would this be a fair assumption?

    Applying decals

+1 for taking your time and using masking tape and pencil marks to get accurate placement - remember measure twice, fit once. :) wiping down the frame with solvent will help key the decal

Replaced Chain - Help - skipping/jump on chainset cycle

get a chain wear gauge, that way you can keep your eye on the chain stretch and replace before you start wearing casettes and chainrings - it's far cheaper in the long run http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-chain-wear-tool/

    Zaskars???

not a bad looking bike, but big mistake imo. Reminiscent of what happen with MG - slap a once prestigious badge on to your product with no respect for the attributes that made that name famous. What was wrong with the i-drive branding - it looks like an evolution of the later i-drive bikes to me
