thanks for the replies guys - it seems like p-clips on the seat stays is probably the way to go. The only snag is that I am running an A2Z disc brake adaptor which obscures the tapped holes for the lower mounting point. I might have to bite the bullet and get a disc specific rack or the tubus...

I use Schwalbe Marathon Cross on my daily commute - found them to be very good in most conditions and give some puncture protection as well.

I have a friend who has a Raleigh Dynatech 605ti that has a Suntour SL groupset. He has managed to snap one of the chain links, so is now after a new chain. I know nothing about Suntour stuff, but would imagine that it would be compatible with a Shimano chain. Would this be a fair assumption?

+1 for taking your time and using masking tape and pencil marks to get accurate placement - remember measure twice, fit once. :) wiping down the frame with solvent will help key the decal
