    Muddy Fox Sorcerer Pro

Re: Finished, pretty much. Non-original bars for a bit more sweep/width; Vs instead of the original cantis; better levers. And the tyres aren’t original, obviously. It’s a lovely frame. Sadly, I think it’s a bit big for me, so might be headed for the Classified section. Can’t quite bear to do...

Mercian - King of Mercia - Touring Geometry 653 - update Page: 6

Ha! Then I’m guessing we’re the same age. I got this frame from my stepfather; it sat in the garage for years, until one day I looked at the serial number and realised it had first graced the world in late 1967. Like me. Dusted it down and sent it back to Mercian for restoration (by then it...

Mercian - King of Mercia - Touring Geometry 653 - update Page: 6

Nice bike. I also have a Mercian with touring geometry (no idea the model, but it’s from 1967). It’s absolutely the smoothest bike I’ve ever owned, amazingly comfortable and also great at covering ground. It gets wrapped in a blanket and put in the loft in winter, so the photos show it last summer.

Re: WTD: 125/130 quill stem for 25.4 bars, black Thanks for the offer. I should have said: 22.2 steerer tube. That looks like it might be 25.4?

    Tyre challenge

Re: Thanks! A 2.0 won't fit the rears, unfortunately: there's about 5mm clearance to the drive-side chain stay. (I do need to re-dish the wheel... but I think it'll still be tight.)

    Tyre challenge

My new-to-me Muddy Fox’s rear triangle has clearance for 1.95 max, less if the side knobs are very sidey. Front will take about a 2.1, maybe a 2.2. What does the retro hivebrain think would be the best all-round combo, for just riding around on easy trails with Mrs Fourstrings? I’m not...

Diamondback Axis Pro '92 build...in trouble already!!

Re: The best penetrating fluid I’ve found is ACF50, which also inhibits and breaks down corrosion. If you give the BB a soak from as many angles as possible, over the course of a few days, that might help.

    Muddy Fox Sorcerer Pro

Wow! Thanks for all that info, Big Cheese: so useful. I did find the catalogue on here, but not that spec spread. Fantastic.

    Muddy Fox Sorcerer Pro

Stripped everything down, managed (because I have such mighty thews. And a can of penetrating oil) to get the cranks off, realised that the headset fitted with the suspension forks has too high a stack height for the original forks. Never mind, I can wait to find a replacement: I’m expecting it...
