http://www.finn.no/finn/torget/annonse? ... =bontrager This is in Norway. I tihnk the price is pretty darn good, but I don't think shipping will be less than £100. It's not mine by the way-

    who made grey tyres???

I tihnk specialised made quite a few models. If you look at pictures of early 90's stumpies, and find the steel one that came in a nice dark green colour that came with grey tyres as stock - I remember seeing a whole row of them in a US shop

    Gear cable change Rapidfire M-738

They were indeed m-739, so my search for a grub screaw was indeed fruitless. Anyway thanks for the above help - i know have a working rear mech and a correctly id'ed shifter.

    Gear cable change Rapidfire M-738

OK, ashamed to admit I'm bamboozled by this but..... I snapped a gear cable a couple of days ago, went to change it tonight. I bought this bike built, it has, I tihnk, M-738 Rapidfire integrated shifters/levers. Started looking for hole, or screw covering hole to replace cable , but cannot...

    Gordon Gekko mtb

I guess you'd have to google for them. They were formed in 1992, but in 2002 became the house brand of some largely Oslo based sports shops named Anton sport, and they've been rebranding mass produced frames of varying merit since then. The other big rebranded mark is Bros (unfortunate)...

    Gordon Gekko mtb

Gekko is a brand that distributes bikes in Norway. Nothing much to say on them - they are just labelled Gekko

What if Klein started to sell bikes again?

'why would anyone buy rigid? back then we had no choice, now we have. it would be like lighting your house with tapers and pig's fat instead of energy saver lighbulbs.' Umm because sometimes a rigid bike is faster and more apprpriate. Anyway they wouldn't stand still, they would change. I...

    O.E. q/r's 80's relative question

When did Salsa put in an appearance? 1990 seems a rather late date to me - fancy skewers seemed to pop up as long ago as I can remember, which is back to 1988.

First (old) frames with disc brake mount

What budget range? There are some Fat Chance frames that came from the factory with tabs, but they are an example of the 'luxury' end of the market.

    Blatant 'Zinn' show off thread

LGF - you seem to have more than a passing knowledge of Cambridge shops from times past. Which one sold these - the blue colour was/is just beautiful.

May BoTM 2012 - Vote NOW!!

I've always liked those stumpjumpers - they might not have the most kudos but they look good and ride good. The Yo, RekTek and Bridgestone are nice too.

Mongoose IBOC Pro Carbon, £50 + pricey postage

This is in Norway, mail them in English. Looks nice for 500 NOK (circa 50 or so of your Eenglish pounds) http://www.finn.no/finn/torget/tilsalgs ... e=34583420 You would want a quote for postage, but I'm guessing not so much more than Royal Mail

what U got that exceeded/didn't exceed the expectations?

My dynatech impressed me as well even tho' the spinner forks weighted more than the frame. Scott Ped SE brakes impressed me for not much money. My Graftons were extremely disappointing, and were a lot of money even 2nd hand

So what did your bike cost you BITD then?

First was in 1988 or 89, a Muddy Fox Pathfinder from Evans in Kingston for circa 200(?). After that it was a DX equipped Dynatech from Evans nr. Waterloo for under 500, and then after that a Yo Eddy frame , forkes and bits from Cov Garden in round about 93. Bought it with EdEdwards , with 700...

    Running magura's on water?

Water is very slightly less compressible than oil so it would feel direct to say the least. Other issues with degassing, and corrosion, but it would work temporarily
