They look badly worn to me. Look at the middle ring in the bottom pic at 11 o'clock position. The big ring inner also looks a tad chewed too. Chain falling off a ring often means wear on the ramps. The chain ring is then toast. I stopped buying used chainrings, people shove worn out...

Add grommets to the rim. Very cheap and simple. A box full of mixed groms from ebay is a fiver, or couple from a bike shop for £6.95.

That is such a nice bike. I've got the 1990 Mirage, I use mine every day - 15 mile commute down an old railtrack, and put V-brakes on. I overtook three lycra roadies on it today, they were so suprised.

Hiya, I'm rebuilding a 1990 Raleigh Mirage and have some wear in the taper on the B/B spindle. Time for a new one. It's (yep) 140mm long. Google says it doesn't exist. The B/B shell is 68mm so a sealed unit will fit - I checked with a spare and the threads are ok. Anyone got a clue...

I have one. They're hugely convenient but make you lazy. Then, they eat money. If you only carry one or two carts on the bike and you fubar fixing a puncture a couple of times then you're out of CO2. Still, I like having mine for a quick top up out on ye trail.

I had my bottom bracket doctors hat on again, today, the large chainwheel was bent by about 10mm, chucking the chain off even with the mech limit screws properly set, that and the oval Biopace made it a pig to align. The 20 year old chain is toast. It must be a foot longer than when it was new...
