1997 GT RTS All Terra Mountain Bike Advice on Bearings and Handlebars/Accessories Due to Hand Pain

Great, I'm not after anything fancy. I don't know anything about seat posts, as long as it fits and isn't too long, what else should I be considering?

26.8 saddle rail clamp built in like this around 260mm. Thanks :-)

Awesome, so we now know it's definitely 28.8. Do you have any spares?

Ah, so it seems to be 28.8, do you have any rigid spares with the built in rail clamp shown in my previous post?

1997 GT RTS All Terra Mountain Bike Advice on Bearings and Handlebars/Accessories Due to Hand Pain

Thank you, so I suspect it must be 26.8 in that case as 26.6 is pretty snug. Is there any way to determine if Taiwan or USA built frame or given the fact it's had a 26.6mm seat post fitted most of its life we go with 26.8?

1997 GT RTS All Terra Mountain Bike Advice on Bearings and Handlebars/Accessories Due to Hand Pain

The post actually says 26.6mm on it and I ran the callipers around the inside of the mount and got the same measurement even after moving the post around inside and putting pressure on the sides.

1997 GT RTS All Terra Mountain Bike Advice on Bearings and Handlebars/Accessories Due to Hand Pain

The post is 26.6mm and looking at the way it interacts with the frame, that has to be the correct size. So I need a 26.6mm rigid seat post that is 270mm long or less.

1997 GT RTS All Terra Mountain Bike Advice on Bearings and Handlebars/Accessories Due to Hand Pain

The seatpost never wobbled in all the time I was using it, although I never had it sticking out crazy far. I used calipers to measure the seatpost. The clamp portion of the frame looked slightly pinched, which made me think 2mm more would probably be the required side. I'll wiggle the post in...

1997 GT RTS All Terra Mountain Bike Advice on Bearings and Handlebars/Accessories Due to Hand Pain

I mean as long as it's not a seat post that connects to the saddle like this. I like the seat posts with the saddle rail clamps built in. The existing seat post diameter is 26.76mm (although the part that accepts the seat post looks like it would have been happier for the post to be...

1997 GT RTS All Terra Mountain Bike Advice on Bearings and Handlebars/Accessories Due to Hand Pain

I've tried getting local people to make things in the past and they aren't interested, would the same person make another for me? In terms of seat post, I just want one that clamps onto the rails of the seat. I'm not sure what that's called.

Thanks for your reply. He implied if those had gone, it would be scrap. I'd be interested in replacing bushings with bearings! I just need to know exactly what to order (names, sizes etc). Wow, I can't find a replacement seat post that's around 26cm long anywhere that can deliver in time for...

1997 GT RTS All Terra Mountain Bike Advice on Bearings and Handlebars/Accessories Due to Hand Pain

Hey all, I can't believe my first post was all the way back in 2008 for this bike. Got it out again this year and it's had a decent service. The chap who serviced it said the bearings in the rear suspension ideally need replacing, but he said it may not be possible to find the parts needed? He...

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

Thank you all for your help. How much are you talking about to get the replacements you suggested? How do I tell which brake levers I have? The cables are about a year old.

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

At the very least I need new brake pads, they are extremely worn. I weigh 12 stone. What kind of brake levers? What types are there? They look pretty standard to me. They tuned the brakes to the rims that were on the bike at the time, but I put others on because I wanted to use slicks rather...

    Disc Brakes and V-Brakes

Hello, I know it's been a while but I've not changed anything regarding the brakes. I've had the bike serviced a number of times now and things haven't really improved. So I was wondering what v brakes to get for the front and rear? The avids have been discontinued...
