    Today's Ride

I can testify that this is indeed a possible and even frequent phenomenon. Just like it's possible for a ride to be uphill going both out and back.

    The Health and Nutrition Thread

This is it pretty much in a nutshell. Most of my rides are too short to require much in the way of fuelling apart from water. Getting that hydration in is essential. And then rest. I find my approach has evolved over the years to incorporate both 'science' and 'feel' -- heeding good nutrition...

    Today's Ride

Definite wintry vibes today: overcast and chilly, following some weeks of nice autumn sunshine. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours bleeding the faulty front Hope Mono Mini on the Salsa, which I'd been putting off for months. Turned out to be much easier than anticipated, so was chuffed to be...

    Question re new Hope brakes

I decided recently to splash out on a new front brake for my 'number 1' MTB -- the original has seen a lot of action and is very tired, and rather than the mess and hassle of refurbishing the system, I opted for a new one. The brake eventually turned up and as ever was a lovely piece of kit --...

    Today's Ride

Our warm, dry autumn continues. Sunny, 25C, light breeze today. We had friends staying, but they left early to drive back to Sydney before the afternoon rush, so I had the chance to head off on the Jake. Took it easy, feeling quite good, enjoying the weather and the unexpected freedom...

1998 Kona Explosif work in progress

I have it nicely tucked away ready for a refurb! I am wrestling with the idea of a full strip-down of the bike, maybe a respray, and rebuild with nicer parts. But I'm enjoying riding it right now, so will have to debate this with myself for a while longer.

1998 Kona Explosif work in progress

A minor upgrade to the '98: having enjoyed riding it a lot this summer, I felt that a couple of bar ends would help with the slightly-too-small frame (along with that horrible setback seatpost). As the bike's in a bit of a tatty condition, I thought these X-Lites in well-used condition would be...

    Today's Ride

Clocks went back over the weekend here so evening rides are suddenly in the gloaming when the temp is dropping. Luckily, today I had no work-related commitments at lunchtime, and the Mrs was having lunch with a friend, so took off on the 98 Explosif (now with bar ends) for a quick spin around...

    92 Marin Eldridge Grade Lite

It was one of those 'want to have' bikes at the time -- I recall a very positive review in MBUK (I think) which had me totally sold. Far out of reach at the time though.
