Finally finished !! after two years.

That 'retro' leather bar tape spoils it and is out of place on an actual old bike.

Good God - someone in Manchester is actually riding this !!!

I think it's been in a head on crash. From the photos, it does look it still has some forward rake, perhaps smaller than before. It probably handles a bit differently but you get use to it. And no I don't think it's dangerous, either in handling or it's going to break.

    Raleigh Criterium restoration & remodel

Of course this is someone else's bike and they can do what they like with it, but IMO it's not "right" to put a 531 sticker on a 501 frame.

HELP Please! need fork threads extended

I would have thought this is something you have to go to a framebuilder to have done. If you're not near one, you can send the forks to them.

So in Dutch they're called "shoe plates", same as English.

    Retro footwear

Unless you've got really small feet, not much use for wearing though as they're all sized 40 or smaller. But good for display or as something for a shoe maker to copy. There are some videos on Youtube of someone making shoes by hand, I mean really by hand and not the usual "hand made" which...

    Retro footwear

I used to wear Arturo shoes when I started cycling, and amazingly they're still available: http://www.williamlennon.co.uk/footwear ... -shoe.html although I remember mine were more sleek looking, the pic on their website looks quite clunky. Another actual (not "retro") traditional touring...

Help! Is this a crack, or a manufacturing flaw?

Or they could sell it as "damaged, for repair only".

    stubborn freewheel removal techniques?

Maybe add an extra person using the vice method, so you have 3 people turning the wheel. And as mentioned definitely use penetrating fluid. Re using a pipe/bar to extend the spanner or tool that holds the freewheel remover, there's no point if it's just someone holding the wheel. You need to...

Help! Is this a crack, or a manufacturing flaw?

It can be repaired, it's going to be quite expensive but still cheaper than a new equivalent frame.

    cinelli stem

If you mean the XA stem: http://www.bikepro.com/products/stems/cinelli-road.html then that plastic bit (came in different colours) is purely cosmetic, it's just to fill fill up the gap. Although it might also stop water getting into the threads and bolt.

    Finally.......A Rourkie

I suspect it helps the programme makers sell the programme to American TV channels. Watch any BBC factual type programme and probably there will be an American expert/academic on it.

    Adrian Timmis's Tour bike!!

Is that the actual bike, or just the frame? I'm sure he had to get it resprayed in the original colours, and was looking for parts for it.

Mystery bike, French, Shimano, English BB?

Not the same, those forks have a fully sloping crown, yours is semi sloping. The blades have a similar shaped bend but I would think that's just the pre-bent shape as supplied by Reynolds. Yours also is a bit odd with the bottom end of the blades cut off quite high.

Mystery bike, French, Shimano, English BB?

I prefer the rake at the lower part of the fork blades, it should be a smooth continuous curve eg: but it's just a matter of taste.

Old frame, new parts - Your thoughts

Actually those two don't look too bad, at least they've still got their original paint and forks and don't have threadless stems. But in effect they are new/modern bikes, even if the frame is older/classic/vintage. No different from getting a newly built traditional style steel frame (ie pre...

Mystery bike, French, Shimano, English BB?

I think I read somewhere that a certain Dutch framebuilder uses that overlapping top eyes on all his frames. And he happens to be the one who originally built all the TI Raleigh team frames. Maybe Raleigh copied it and used it for all their frames. That fork rake shape to my eyes is not...

Mystery bike, French, Shimano, English BB?

Raleigh frames had that type of top eyes at the top of the seat stays, where the bottom sticks out and overlaps a bit, I don't know if any other builders use it. The bend on the forks has a distinctive shape; nearly all straight with the bend halfway. Did any Raleigh frames have this? It...
