Could be the seatpost/tube. Remove seatpost, clean. Clean inside seat tube. If it's a Carbon frame use a little gripper paste and torque to correct Nm.

It's okay if you avoid(replace for thumbies) the dodgy shifters

I find 1*12 so much easier and therefore more enjoyable to ride than 3*6/7/8 I love my retro bikes but modern 1*X 29ers are great to ride. Having said that 2*X on gravel bikes if probably a good shout if you ride chunks on road as part of mixed riding

The seat binder bolt is also shot, so new one of those, the small crack you mention to be repaired, then paint. Think it's had some fun with 26.8 v 27 seatpost in its life. Hopefully it will come out okay and I can build it up for the wife or kids, as likely to be too small for me. Shame to...
