Did a bit more sanding and put some primer over it. I used the other stay as a datum to guide some of my sanding, so protected it with more of the thick tape. Here's the little sketch I did to think through and illustrate my plan for the repair.

Does it just protect one side? If its a simple flat shape you could just draw it out onto a sheet of aluminium and hacksaw/file out a new one. If its a special profile that clips over/onto the frame, it might be more challenging! Do you have a picture of the broken part?

Haha noted, Record gets a pass too! For me the newer 4 arm Campag cranks are pretty marmite - they can look great on some bikes and awful on others, really depends on the frame. So all black Red is always good! The FD clamp band is also a cool touch.
