Help setting up cantilever brakes (Kinesis Crosslight 5T)

^yeah that's the "power hanger" I was talking about. I think it's pretty cool

Help setting up cantilever brakes (Kinesis Crosslight 5T)

The other advantage of KoolStop pads is, they are self-toeing basically (there's a little tab of rubber on the leading edge that gets it just right). Problem with shims is, you need four hands (instead of three ... unless you do the rubber band trick, then you only need three hands). With...

1983 Ritchey Everest -- Northwest Territories

Owner passed recently, spouse is way up in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Sounds like she wants the bike to go to a home where it will be well loved. On Reddit.

    Inappropriate brand/model names

Those pedals you get on amazon are great little Fookers.

    1987 Ritchey Ascent Restoration

Weird. This is the only bike if ever owned that was "done" but, I think it is

    Help w/ID on ‘88 Ritchey.

TIG frame, Japanese serial number, rack mounts -- I'd say probably an Outback Frames were manufactured in Japan, TR did the seat stays and attached whatever braze-on's he felt appropriate. I figure the "A" stands for Ascent (link to my '87 Ascent here, review here). Odds are pretty good we...

New cassette, new chainrings. Much better in every way.

    Lugged Kuwahara. Killer paint.

Montana Gold makes a "marble effect" in a couple of colors. Near as I can tell it comes out like silly string.

Haha this thing will never have a molecule of mud anywhere near it. I have a bike for that :D Not sold on that cassette. Found an old Shimano 13-30 on eBay. Not many of those out there. Also gotta get some rings, the granny ring is all jacked up. Now I know what "chain suck" is. Wish I didn't.

    1987 Ritchey Ascent Restoration

Rebuilt an XT derailleur for it too. That was fun. Ever notice how much easier it is to take a derailleur apart than to put it back together? 12.4 kg as pictured. No lightweight but fun to ride and very plush feeling. Nice ride through the outer banks today. The U brake does suck. But...

    XT & DX v-brakes

Yeah, for a rider it's just too easy to find serviceable Avid gear out there. Found a complete set, levers and all on ebay for $40 and the bins at the co-op are full of that stuff. Maybe I'm remembering this wrong but back in the early 2000's that stuff was kinda cool, no? Seems like the one...

    1987 Ritchey Ascent Restoration

Thanks! Nah I'm in the US, I used to always wire my brakes up like that. Was never all that serious about MTB but was really into motorcycles for a while there, didn't want to mess up my muscle memory. Makes for a good cable run here As for the shifters, I've been doing 1x for years, only...

    1987 Ritchey Ascent Restoration

Was kind of hoping for a campy seatpost binder but couldn't pass up this NOS XT binder. The Suntour brake thing was a thought but I don't think the U brake will fit and the cantis are missing a piece (!). Some campy goodness up front. Magura levers, so Ritchey. Gotta do something with that...

    1987 Ritchey Ascent Restoration

Fun with stickers. Not so much fun with pedals -- acquired some Spesh Flag cranks with craptacular "Wellgo" pedals fused in. Multiple freeze/heat cycles broke em loose, finally. Wife caught me pulling them out of freezer. Note to self
