Marin East Peak, help with year please

Not sure on OEM spec tbh. I think some used Marin own brand "ovation" stuff. There were loads of models to fit varying price points, all with the same frame. Personally I'm pretty relaxed about non catalogue builds as long as they look good and ride even better, so I'm probably the wrong...

    2000 Marin Mount Vision Build

For those who may be interested, the longer forked, wide bars / short stem set-up proved to be extremely capable, but 1) a 30.0mm seat post makes it difficult to fit a dropper post, which IMO is required for the sort of riding you'd do on this set-up 2) with a long fork, that BB is just too...

    2000 Marin Mount Vision Build

Well that didn't last quite as long as expected - the Mount Vision is now back in retrobike mode with long stem, narrow bars, and honking great bar ends! Took it with me for a week away on the Gower and managed a cracking ride taking in coasts, castles and a couple of really nice ridge...

For Sale The ultimate 26er? And I am not joking. Stanton Slackline Ti … size 16 inch

That is really, really nice! I reckon this style of bike is about as fun as it gets, would take this over a modern LLS ride any day. As for the used bike market, yep, it's in a bit of a state right now! Plus side is you can keep it and tell the Mrs you tried your best to sell it, honest! Good...

For Sale Rear shocks, monarch and ario

That's really helpful, thanks! Is the Ario definitely a 195mm eye to eye (rather than 200mm) as well? Finding it harder than I thought it would be to find a decent shock that fits!

For Sale Rear shocks, monarch and ario

Hi there, How confident are you in those measurements? I ask as the monarch looks like the 10% sag indicator is slightly closer to the wiper seal than the distance between the other 10% gradations... Is it possible it's a 200x57? If so, could you let me know what the compression & rebound...

    2000 Marin Mount Vision Build

Oh, and I finally found a use for the bottle cage mounts on the bottom of the down tube (can't think that anyone would want to drink out of a bottle that was mounted down here the amount of crud it would get coated in!) - an old tyre recycled as a down tube rock guard. I put a horrible dent in a...

    2000 Marin Mount Vision Build

Went out for a quick spin after work today on my local trails. There are quite a few sections of tight bermed & flat corners. The bike does need to be leant/pushed more assertively into turns than I'm used to, and doesn't feel quite as planted as it could through the turns, but with the right...

    2000 Marin Mount Vision Build

Just back in from a day's riding in South Wales. The new set up feels pretty good - unsurprisingly set some PBs on the climbs (compared to a modern 150mm FS), but also a few on the downs too, which I wasn't expecting. I suspect this is partly due to a very fast rolling rear tyre and partly...

    2000 Marin Mount Vision Build

My riding has been progressing towards slightly more technical trails over the last few years, and while the bike has always ridden beautifully, it has always felt rather out of its element on steeper / scarier trails. So I thought I'd try out a slightly different set-up on the Mount Vision to...

Marin East Peak, help with year please

That's a lovely job you've done polishing up the frame, looks great! What rear shock have you got on there?

    1999 Marin Team Marin

Ah that makes sense, they were fitted to the full sus range around that time too.

    1999 Marin Team Marin

Sounds like a nice match to the frame. Do you know what would have been OEM on it? I'd really like a 1997 Team Marin one day (the super posh version of my humble '97 Hawk Hill).

    2000 Marin Mount Vision Build

I've been thinking quite a lot about whether there's anything I'd like to change on this bike, mainly because I've not been able to get out as much and fancy a bit of a winter project. However, today's ride reminded me that it's already pretty much perfect for wheels-on-the-ground bridleway...

Went out for another spin today. Painfully slow but a beautiful day to be out on a bike :)

    2000 Marin Mount Vision Build

After having my ass thoroughly kicked by Covid recently, it was nice to get out for a gentle spin on the trust MtV today. It's a bit sad having to take it slow'n'easy though, this bike wants to go fast!
